I know what you mean...I'm in Edmonton and going to Safeway to pick up a few things gets expensive fast! I'm really getting fed up with Superstore (always out of stuff, especially the loss leaders, bad raincheck policy, clueless employees) but where else can you go?

I'm completely confounded by the price of shortening!! Crisco 3lb. can is up to $4.99!!! It's almost cheaper to buy butter now.

I noticed at Save-a-lot the other day that their 5 minute oatmeal has gone up to $1.89 a container.
It wasn't that long ago that I could buy it for .99 cents.
I know that seems like such a small amount, but that's almost a $1.00 just for one basic item.
I don't see how people are paying for convience foods, when just regular 'ole staples are going up so much?Michelle in middle Tennessee!
Ever so slowly rebuilding my stockpile...

I came home with a few things the other day and my husband is usually all excited and hunting around the kitchen for chips and cookies and other goodies that I used to surprize him with, those days are over. I baked homemade crackers the other day, and made cookies. I'm stocking up on all dry bulk goods: flour, sugar, cornmeal, lentils, beans, rice, noodles, powdered milk. I do need to get some shortening and yes I passed it up last time (sticker shock).

Went shopping at Winn Dixie for dinner.Lux speghetti was 2.79,Ragu 3.99,Winn Dixie Parmesan 3.49, ground chuck 6.53. The total was almost $30 for one meal since we bought more than one jar or Ragu and a jug of iced tea.Couldnt afford the gas to drive to the next town to go to Save a Lot.

I went to the store today and bought an 18 ib bag of cat food, milk, toilet paper, bleach, and cheese and only spent $15, so that's not so bad.
