I think we are ready!
I have been visiting around FV for some time now and I have been trying to do what I could to help out our budget but I had a notion that DH wasnt quite on board yet. I am a firm believer that if this is gonna work then we both have to be on board so I have sat back and waited and over that last week or so I he has come around. We went to the grocery last night and I was suprised to see him only want to buy what was on the list! We have turned off our AC unit since the weather is getting milder and are considering alternative ways to heat our big OLD house this winter that can save us money. On top of that we are spending less on gifts this holiday and are planning to pay off debt with our tax return next year! Oh and since we live so much further out than the rest of our family Dh decided that we need to limit ourselves to one family event a month to save money. We went to a birthday party last weekend and with gift gas and food we spent around $80!!!!! We just cant do that every week. Frugal living here we come!

Sounds like a plan! You put a cover on your ac for the winter? Shutting off the heat & closing doors to rooms you don't use helps bunches too.
You both make a game out of this saving $$ thing & you can have alot of fun.

I am slowly getting my DH on board too. It feels good to finally have his support. We use wood heat to supplement oil in the winter and we do close off rooms not in use. I have even put plastic over windows when I thought they needed it. Looks bad....saves heat!! Good luck!!

YAY! Welcome aboard to both of you!
First - I am envious that you have cut off the AC - I am so stinking hot still (but pregnant) and it's staying in the 80's in Clarksville during the day.
Second - see if you can tune into Dave Ramsey sometime - he comes on 99.7 or you can listen to his show on the internet. He tends to get people motivated!

It really only took a few months of showing DH the reduction in bills once I made us switch to a more frugal lifestyle that he climbed aboard and really got into the act. Track your "before" electric bills versus the ones where you are unplugging unused appliances, using CFL bulbs, turning down the thermostat...and he'll be a believer.
Good luck!
