McDonald's closing early now
This was a surprise. It said on the door of our local McDonald's that they will now be closing at 7pm each night. I guess that's better than closing the place altogether. I don't know how Burger King even stays in business since their parking lot is always pretty empty.

Interesting...When do people with kids eat then? They must earn their money from the stay-at-home moms bringing kids in? Or on the weekends with birthday parties? Or do people really just rush from work to pick up kids and go to McD's? Not sure they're making sense with this plan, but that's their business. I'm sure someone did a study somewhere that showed they have no business to speak of after 7 p.m. Interesting though...
Doesn't affect me any. It's been ages since I ate at any fast food joint.

I was almost sad to see our local bakers square close, because it was never busy and you never had to wait for a table. I was not really surprised to see it close though.

Wow...that's unusual. We rarely eat fast food, but when we do...it's usually an "I'm exhausted, we need to eat, the kitchen's a mess, it's after 9pm, and we're finally on the way home" kind of thing.
Wonder how that will affect the local businesses/economy??Kace - married to Dh 12 years

Is this a rural McDonalds? I don't think this is a widespread phenomenon.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Depending on what neck of the woods you live in the reason for early closing could be because they don't want to be target for robbery????

It must be regional. Our town (myrtle beach) has what seems like a million McDonalds and every other type of fast food place imaginable. McD's is open 24 hours and Wendys til 3 am. Sonics is 24hrs too I believe. I dont know what they are going to do because the tourists are gone.
Three restaurants closed here last week. The one I work at will close Thanksgiving and reopen in Feb.
Still they are building new places and condos. That sit empty."That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

We live in a rural area. We don't have any big box stores here. Just a blink of a city. There are no other McD's closeby either. I googled it and found that there are some McD's closing at 6pm for part of the week. So we aren't the only one!

I suspect they're doing this in slower areas to cut their losses. If they don't make much after 7pm, staying open means paying employees to do nothing, and a larger work crew.

We work on resturants and have seen all of their new and remodel schedules cancel. In order to save money Wendy's, Sonic and many other resturants pulled plans for new buildings. Applebees and Outback canceled remodel and new concept plans.
Many fast food places will be cutting hours if their sales after 7pm aren't generating enought income. I know Sonic is planning to close 3 stores in the Orlando area due to food and employee costs. I think we're going to see alot of this as times get harder. With more and more businesses closing up folks have less money to spend on things like meals out. With construction down alot of fast food places don't have those workers coming in everyday. I know when we work on new construction sites you can tell what fast food place is close by the bags on the ground. From stopping for breakfast before coming to the site til the job is shut for the day folks are making runs to the nearest place.

I was talking to the owner of a local takeout pizza/sub joint. They were saying that their lunch crowd is now gone - people are brown bagging it. They also said that the evenings are either very busy or very quiet. She had the time to sit down with us last night and that's the first time in 4 years and we only go on random Tuesdays.
