Want to Share a "New to Frugality" Story
Until I found this website a little over a week ago, I thought I was frugal...I wasn't! What I used to do was look for sales and try to be careful. The problem was I'd waste my money on convenienced boxed stuff. After reading so much wonderful suggestions, advice and experiences from others I've learned a lot.
This will sound ridiculous, but last night was the first night I MADE MY OWN CROUTONS!!! I didn't know how easy it was until I did it! Instead of wasting my money on a 99 cent box of croutons with tons of preservatives and additives, I took 4 slices of bread and made lots of yummy, yummy croutons! Hurray!!! I used to think that buying a box of croutons on sale was being frugal...until now! I only have this site (and all the people who contribute) to thank. Thanks again! :-)An obstacle is what comes up when you lose sight of your goal.

I have learned so much being a member of the Village. It helps so very much to be able to share ideas with people who don;t think you are insane for wanting to be truly frugal

Way to go!! Isn't it funny how we never thought to make these types of things before. We all thought it was more convient to purchase a box already made. DOH!

Hey Quiltin',
I thought I was frugal as well but this site has opened my eyes to how much more frugal I can be. As a result of this site, I made my own detergent for the first time last week. I'm also making a greater effort to shop the loss leaders in different stores.

I was right there with ya! I spent hours matching up sales and coupons to get my convenience foods for cheap. Then come to find I could make most of it myself and spend less time doing it than I did couponing!

I took 4 slices of whole wheat bread; cut off the crusts; buttered both sides of each slice with dh's homemade garlic butter; cut the slices of bread in good-size cubes; put it in the oven for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees fahrenheit.
I have to say they were the best croutons I've ever tasted!...No more store bought for me! I asked dh for his garlic butter recipe, and when he found out I was going to share it online he wouldn't give it to me. All I know is that he uses Chefmaster margarine (the cheaper green tub) and garlic. He adds other things to it, but I'm not quite sure. You could always experiment and find out what works for you or maybe others could share their culinary skills! An obstacle is what comes up when you lose sight of your goal.
