Default Which is cheaper - do you know?

Okay, this may sound funny to some but here goes anyways ...

I do not buy milk at all 'cuz I just plain don't like it [never have!]

Anyways - I do drink coffee and have to have creamer [powdered] in it so I always have that on hand.

Well, a long time ago I needed milk for something or other and of course didn't have any so I thought, what the heck ... I'd just put a few shakes of creamer in place of the milk.

Just like powdered milk - when whatever it is, is done ... ya can't taste any difference than if you'd used regular milk.

When I've had powdered milk over the years like they'd give for the government surplus, I would use that ... again, no difference.

So, what I was wondering is - which do you think would be cheaper for me to buy to use?

I really don't care for the powdered milk in my coffee but if it were significantly cheaper then I would probably switch to that to use for everything instead of creamer.

Creamer now, I'm paying about $3.75 for a 35.3 ounce jar of it.

When I priced the powdered milk, it is expensive [like 15.00 box a box though I didn't check the ounces on it].

For those of you who do buy powdered milk, can you tell me which of those would be the cheaper of the two to use?

    Thanks!

I know for me here, the powdered creamer is cheaper. I actually priced it out by the ounce at one point (I think the powdered milk was $15.99 (and again, I can't remember how much either) and the 35 ounce creamer is under $2 at Aldi's. But if you are paying almost $4 for the creamer, you might have to actually check the milk and see how much you would be paying by the ounce!

Let us know what you find out!

I don't know about the price, but creamer has no nutritional value if that is a concern.

I can't help with which is cheaper, but I thought I'd throw another option into the mix.

    Evaporated milk.

It's what I've always used in both my Chai tea AND my coffee.
It gives it a really good taste and a can lasts me a pretty good while and around the holidays it's usually cheaper, so that's when I try & stock up.

And yeah, the coffee creamer has so many bad things in it, I try to stay away from it. *Lots* of hydrogenated oils/fats.
I know that wasn't your question, but I thought it would be worth giving some thought to.

My MIL used to use evaporated milk in her coffee. In fact DH always called it "Coffee Milk" It did give a good flavor to the coffee. She always used instant coffee since she was the only one who drank it. Funny just the mention of the evaporated milk in coffee and that flavor just came rushing back. I think I am going to have to pick some up next grocery shopping trip. (Store brand of course!)

Wow, thanks so much for all of your answers.

I "never" thought that coffee creamer would be bad for you being high in fat content.

Ugh, the labels on products are so misleading!!

I have 2 1/2 jars of the creamer here that I'm going to use up but also think that I'm gonna stock up on powdered milk for the winter and before the price goes up even more.
