Default Ugh - Verizon did it again!!

I am so angry that I can't even begin to tell you!

Okay, I moved just over a month ago [just changed apartments] and before the move, I had Verizon DSL which I'd had for years, right?

Well, as dumb as I am ... when the lady asked something about my computer, I told her I just got a new laptop at which time she told me that I "needed" to buy their wireless router.

Yep, I was stupid enough that I didn't know any better.and thought that I "had" to have it to get my internet.

Anyways, when I found that I didn't have to have it, I called back to cancel it and was on hold for OVER 3 hours.

Finally by some miracle I was given a number at which I was able to get through in less than 5 minutes.

I was so mad about being on hold for that long and all the run-around before that, that I told him to cancel everything and that I'd go to cable internet.

He said he'd cancel it [the router thing] and also that he'd give me 4 free months internet if I'd stay.

A few days later I just had a thought that I had better call back and check 'cuz by that time, I didn't have the money in my checking and if they charged me, I'd have things bouncing all over the place.

The lady told me that it had been sent out and finally said that they would charge me for it [can you say stress??] but that they'd credit the money back when they did charge me and I could also have 30 more days internet for free.

I checked my bank account and they didn't charge me for the router but did charge me for the internet even though they weren't supposed to.

When I called today to have the money credited back, the lady told me that the free months promotion was no longer being offered and she could offer me internet for $9.00 a month for 6 months and then $19.00 a month.

She said that it'd be better for me that way than having to pay $30.00 a month.

I asked her "where" the $30.00 come from because my bills had been $17.36 a month for a very long time.

She told me that the guy that offered me the "promotional" offer of 4 free months signed me up for a plan that I'd pay $30.00 a month and would be commited for a year to it.

HUH????? I guess I stupidly thought that if a company was trying to keep your business and they offered you free months to stay - that they would honor it and that you wouldn't end up paying twice as much as you had been.

That man NEVER told me anything about my bill going up ... or that I was signing up for ANY type of a plan.

Bottom line to this whole rant is ... it's always a good idea to check back [multiple times if necessary!] to make sure that the person who offered you something, that they really did.

If I hadn't checked back today like I did, I would have ended up having a bill that was double what I had been paying [and this dear friends, is how Verizon DSL tries to keep their customers!] Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

We dropped Verizon 4 yrs ago and went with cable phone & internet package Time Warner was offering. I got tired of the constant fees/taxes on this that & the other thing. Adding stuff to my account when I didn't authorize it, etc.

You're better off without them, IMO. Cable internet is faster than DSL too

I just realize it was Verizon that gave DH the run around when he tried to cancel our cell phones. After some discussion he was told they were giving him a month free and all he had to do was call back in a month if he still wanted to cancel and pay a certain amount cancellation fee. DH thought this sounded crazy so clarified the details several times. I'm always suspicious so wasn't so happy with this but oh well. He calls back in a month and they suddenly they are going to charge for the "free" month and the cancellation fee is double what he recalled being told. Now, it was probably the first person that made the error (I hate to think they straight up lied about not being charged for the extra month if we still canceled) but DH had to go through quite an ordeal speaking to a bunch of people and making repeated phone calls as well in order to at least have them drop the charges for the "free" month. He wasn't as certain about the cancellation fee so didn't end up pursuing that.

Between that experience and reading your story, I will definitely plan to avoid business with them in any capacity in the future.

heh, Yeah Verizon does suck. They've given me the run around in the past and I've threatened to cancel all my accounts with them and then to sue them for false advertising practices and report them to the Public Utility Commission. They quit mucking about then and I've had NO problems since. Now lets see if they cancel my Laptop Aircard that I asked them to 2 weeks ago since the contract is up, correctly or they'll get another earful.

Yep, that's what I do too, I wrote down the date I calleld every time I did call and who it was I talked to, along with confirmation numbers.

And, believe me - I question "everything" just to make it clear and I know for a fact that when the guy offered me the 4 free months I again asked him if my bill would be the same when it was time for me to resume paying the bill and he said that yes, it would be the same.

And the darned thing of it is that with this guy doing that, what apparently he did was to offer me 4 free months which was a promotion going then that i didn't know about till today ....

And he signed me up for that which in turn locked me into another years contract with them.

Now, as for their service? I have never had a problem with it not working the way it is supposed to 'cuz with that, I'm totally satisfied but with having to directly deal with any of them? Forget it, that's when my headaches start.
