Tiny House trend
I saw this, this morning onour local news. I guess it has become a new trend in areas with extremely high property taxes. I think it is awesome!
DH and I both grew up on farms in huge, rambling farmhouses and decided when we bought a house that we wanted something small and cozy. We purposely bought a very small home (900 sq. feet) and it fits four of us and two dogs perfectly.
So, being someone who lives in and loves a small house...I'm not sure I could do one of these!
THey are 100 - 200 sq. foot houses! Maybe if I lived alone of it was just DH and I! You would really have to LOVE the ones you live with in close quarters like those!
I like the concept though, low taxes, low or no mortgage! Here's the link:

I love it! Although these may be a bit TOO small

Occasionally I wish I had more space, but then I would just have more "stuff". We love our little house, and with the economy in such a slump, I'm thankful for it. It is cheaper to heat and cool, and property taxes are low. I also believe that someday it will be easier to sell than one of the endless supply of 3000 square foot vinyl boxes!
I guess we are ahead of our time!

Ours is a 3 bedroom- 920 square foot house. It is small but there are only 3 of us. At times I always wanted a bigger house but am now glad we can afford the mortgage and utilities! Count your blessings I guess!

I love the idea of tiny houses
I'd love to get the chance to build a custom one, one day. I'd just want a bit more room for the kitchen than what they provide, I think.

I saw that on CNN.com. It is like living in an RV. One thing with an RV is you spend alot of time outside. And the one thing that would be nice with this is not climbing up a couple of steps every time you go in and out.
I could probably last a season in one of these things, but I think for year round I would go stir crazy!Jeanne

I saw this too AND...
when my then 5 yo son, mother and I moved from our 900 sf 2 bed, 1 bath apartment to our 2100 sf house, I MISS the apartment. We don't even USE up much of the house (we LIVE in the smallest room in the house...the breezeway and STILL have a formal living room and family room in the basement we hardly ever use). And CLEANING...I NEVER get this thing totally clean. Washing windows has been a real chore. Last weekend I washed the out and in of the front and this weekend I will do the back (33 windows...the apartment had 5)...TOO much.

I love these houses! I could definately live in one. I lived ina studio and only moved because of neighbor problems. The size was fine (172 sq ft). I did miss a kitchen sink & stove, but I made do. If I could have one of these on an acre... I'd be in heaven!

I remember over 25 years ago when we brought this house and one of my girlfriends calling it "like a little dollhouse" I remember thinking yes, it's small to some, but I have 4 bedrooms, full basement w/ bath downstairs, on a 1/2 acre. We made the garage into a kitchen, off that a screen porch, and off that a deck.
Many times over these years DH wanted a bigger house, more land. I'm so glad we stayed here. Now the kids are grown, we each have our own office "private space" Our utilities are manageable, and now that retirement is around the corner, this little 'Doll house" is just perfect for us. So glad we stayed put in our tiny house.

I think I have closets that are bigger than that little house, so it would be very difficult for me to do.If I had no other options I would give it a whirl.

I have been looking at houses like these for over a year now.
The Old Man and I have been talking about moving 'South' someday... but we have also thought about buying one of these and staying up here. The idea of being able to move the house is awesome...
What? A blizzard is coming??? Lets go head south! What? Another hurricane??? Come on honey, we're heading North!
We've been trying to find a movable one that has a bedroom on the first floor. I have a hard time with stairs now, I can't see me in my 40/50/60+ climbing a ladder to get to bed.
There are some, but not very many.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I would take an old farmhouse with land over these ANY DAY.

We live in a 3-bedroom Colonial. The kitchen is large (the previous owners took out a wall and built out) and so are the dining room and living room. The bedrooms are nice sizes, not huge. The bathroom is microscopic!
- and we will have to start remodeling that soon - new tub, new toilet, etc, but you can't have everything! (We do have a 1/2 bathroom in the basement.) We have a very good-size backyard. And best of all, it is paid off!
However, our property taxes have gone way up and that is aggravating. Ideally, I would like to live in a one-story ranch because I can see that it would be easier not dealing with stairs on a regular basis. But I love our house - it is on a cul-de-sac and we know and love our neighbors.Penny

I'd like a small house when we settle down. Right now while we're overseas, we're saving up money to buy a piece of land when we return stateside. I'd like to build a small cabin on the land.....I care more about outside room than inside

I wouldn't mind getting one of those little houses for a guest cottage for our land....Wife to Air Force DH for 7 years.
