I felt the same way about my first batch of soap, so I totally am with you. I haven't made jelly yet, because it intimidates me.

My soap was a bust :Crying: The jelly was actually pretty easy.

I used the scraps (cores and peels) of 5 medium apples. Boil them with 4 cups of water, then simmered on the stove covered for about 10 hrs. Then, I strained the juice.

I ended up with just under 3 cups of juice, so I added enough water to make it exactly 3 cups.

4.5 cups sugar. 1/2 cup was mixed w/ 3/4 pkg Sure Jell and added to the juice and returned to a boil. When it started boiling, I added the rest of the sugar and let it boil hard for 1 full minute.

I do NOT know how to can and have no equipment, so I improvised with the next step. I poured the finished product into a Pyrex pan and covered it w/ foil. I let it set overnight and divided it up into smaller portions.

I know because I didn;t do the canning process, it needs to be kept refrigerated, but that's ok.

Awesome! HM jelly is a great gift to receive! It makes you think of the person who made it each time you put a spoonful on a piece of toast! You GO!

You're not a dork at all! Every time I can anything I get excited when it works. I even get excited when I start hearing the lids seal. I am VERY easily amused I guess! Way to go on the jelly that is awesome.

I don't think you're a dork at all! If I canned anything successfully, I'd be shouting from the rooftop

Well welcome to the dork club lol. Seriously the way I jumped up and down in the kitchen the first time I canned a jar of pickles and they came out right you would have thought I won the lottery. So congratulations to you for doing a great job with your first batch of homemade jelly! And if you can stand to part with some of it, they will definitely make wonderful gifts and be appreciated.

Homemade Jam is THE BEST! We've been doing it for years here, it is so much fun. We live in an area with a ton of U-Pick fruit farms so we go load up on peaches, raspberries, strawberries and of course, blackberries for free, anywhere. We make huge batches and go through it like crazy (my DH eat PB&Js like there is no tomorrow) we also give them as gifts or as thank you gifts.

We go the REALLY fugal route and actually ask for our jars back, but we wink and them and say "we will refill it for you." Also, we pick up our jars, lids and rings at garage sales and estate sales for nothing.

    FANTASTIC!

The first time I made jam I was surprised at how easy it was. I came home from work one day and DH had been to a u pick strawberry patch with a ton of strawberries. So I decided to try the jelly. It was great and we had it for a couple of years. It's all gone now But I think I am going to try the apple jelly. Anybody try it with cider instead of juice????
