Is this for real?
I was walking through the frozen foods aisle and noticed for $7.26 you can buy something called "Grandma's chicken/rice/broccoli bake." I think Stouffer's makes it. It is a CASSEROLE! For $7.26.
I don't consider myself an accomplished chef but I can put together a casserole...and for less than $7.26 too!On 11-22-85 I married the man of my dreams.
On 01-13-89 I gave birth to the love of my life.

I agree that I could make that meal for less money by scratch. Though for a person that has no cooking skills, and spends alot of money eating out. That meal for $7.26 might help them be more frugal with food costs.

I think the Crock Pot ones are ridiculous too. I mean, come ON. You just throw the stuff in.

It is a heart attack waiting to happen too.
Check the sodium content on those things.
They are loaded with it, that and fat content.Debra

i agree these types of meals are so ridiculous but I guess there are people who don't know how to cook or don't have time to cook so they will spend that kind of money. Even I buy frozen stuff for convenience sake since I work 2 jobs and I am always busy busy. I would rather have my husband cook one of these types of meals that go out to eat or go through the drive thru.

That's hilarious. I frequently make a chicken, cheese, rice and broccoli casserole that costs me around that much, but with much less sodium and probably about 3 times as big. Leftovers for a couple of days or split and frozen for another meal. Sheesh. That's the way it is for any convenience food, though. Most stuff you can make at home and with much healthier results. I know that's why I like copycat restaurant recipes. You know what's going in to your food and that you can use or substitute the ingredients of your choosing.

Given the price of broccoli lately I'm not surprised at the cost.
I don't understand why people pay for biscuit, muffin, or cake mixes. It's just flour, sugar, and baking powder.

The only time I buy them, is when I'm on vacation and we cook in the crock pot/microwave. It's cheaper than eating out.

The ice cream place is trying to sell some pre-cooked meals. So they are homemade by them. For $7 there was this little lasagne like 2 pieces. I showed it to DH as we just finished off a big pan of lasage the week before. I don't precook my lasagne noodles - I'm not Italian and you can't tell in the end.

Never underestimate the price people will pay for perceived convenience.

Couldn't have said it better! It's still hard to see things like that in the stores knowing you can do it for less $$$.
