I've seen this coming for a long time now. Prices at at least two stores I shop have been fluctuating, but usually they go up in the end. Time to support your local farmers!
(I love the way Superstore does their produce. They get most of it within Canada before reaching out of the country, keeping jobs here and lowering the costs by not paying as much for transportation.)Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

Just happy I have a lot of fresh seed to plant next year! If I can keep the four-footed predators (squirrels) off of it, I shouldn't have to buy much in the way of veggies. And if we have a good winter and spring, my fruit trees should behave and give me a decent crop.

We are planting more fruit bushes and making another garden. Then we putting up t-posts and stock panels for better protection from Bob the dog.

I buy almost all of my produce from local farmer's markets. As if the grocery budget wasn't difficult enough already

We don't have the space to do a big garden here (teeny studio apt). Sometimes my dad gives us fresh stuff from his garden... The "growing season" here is (obviously) not very long and small pots don't do much here. Oh well, we were planning to work through our stockpile, anyway. At least it's 7-9% instead of something worse...like 25%??? (Trying to see the cup half full...is it working?).

I hope they are wrong. I noticed walmart has dropped some of their prices. Probably because the cost of shipping it has gone down some.

Woo Hoo!!! Can't wait. Higher oil prices, Higher food prices, Higher Taxes coming down the pike. Anyone know where the Government Cheese line will be starting at? I'd better put a place-marker in it now.

I'm not surprised. Prices in Canada have already gone up 25-50% this year alone...at least where we live. I think it's outrageous, and am glad I stockpiled in January and again in June. If I could just get over being sick I'd be in the stores looking for deals now. Had to get DH to run to the convenience store last night for canned soup, of all things. If I was well, I could make it. I should have lots in my freezer for times like this. Planning ahead sure helps save money!
I heard on the news last night that Walmart lowered its food prices to give people a break over the holiday season. They expect to raise them in January again from the sounds of it.

I think that with the way the economy has been fluctuating here and with Canada staying out a recession, it might not be as bad. I'm still counting on it happening, though. I'd love to do a garden also but we have neighborhood skunks and the growing season here is really odd. I inherit alot of fresh vegetables and fruit from my inlaws (raspberries, yellow beans, dill, carrots) and DH wants to get some planter boxes for stuff like herbs.

I'm going to try to do a garden for the first time this year. I plan on reading up on different things I want to grow over the winter.

I plan to have a very nice size garden next year for sure.... I even told the DH and DD that we will be eating alot of pasta and stuff this year if food prices keep rising.
It's amazing... I am usually good at staying under $75 for the month with food, just yesterday I went to get some deli ham, milk, toilet paper, and a few other things and I spent $23.... I swear it wasn't more than 7 things....
