Enrolled in university !
Well I am enrolling in UNiversity for next year to study nursing. It will be a 2 year degree. I will not have to pay anything up front as the govt will pay a large portion of it the other bit you defer until you start working and they take it out your pay (no interest) yes i know our system is wonderful compared to the expensive usa college system. When i left high school i did a law degree (4 years the states top university) it cost $8000 and ive never paid a cent as i havent worked as i had the kids. My worry is covering the cost of second hand books, and not having as much time to cook etc and find bargains. So when i come back from holidays i will have about 6 weeks till it starts during this time im going to fill the freezer with home cooked meals the pantries with food and hopefully do my stockpile to get me throught until june (first sem holidays) about 4 months. I know i will have to buy some fruit and maybe some milk but hoping to get the rest prepared. Any tips on being frugal with not much time and keeping things running.

I haven't done this, so no direct experience advice, but I just wanted to tell you *congratulations*! It's really exciting to hear about someone going to school and getting a new career at any stage in their life. Best wishes!

Basically, just decide what you MOST want to do...
and focus on that. As a rule for myself, when I make soup (ANY soup), I always double the recipe and freeze half. I have 6 (2 meals each) in the freezer now. I TOO am planning on going back to school fall 09, I have 6 classes left for my bachelors, BUT my best friend who was just layed off said she applied for a job and was told there were 175 applicants (later heard that they REALLY narrowed the process down to someone with an advanced degree in EXACTLY what they were looking for and DOING exactly what they wanted...no wiggle room) and while at this time my job is "secure" (I underwrite insurance on vacant homes and sad to say, there are a lot of them and a lot of foreign investors buying them up) I don't know what the future will bring so I want to sit pat for a year after the election and see what develops as to weather I can finish my "general business degree" or change to something more specific. I'm JEALOUS of your's and other countries education system (my cousin lives in France and tells of their health and education system...like your's awesome). In MY mind, there are benefits to a Socialist government
Take care and God bless.

That's great!! Congratulations!!
My Dh and I are both in college... I've found that I need to just buy some convenience foods for the busier times. I try to do some scratch cooking on the weekends (between laundry, cleaning, and homework)...
Just focus on learning and do the best you can do!
It's really exciting to go back to school!! Wishing you the best!

I think it is all about simplifying your life. You are the right track about having extra food. I have also found that the less I own in stressful times the happier I am, less to clean I think.

That's so exciting. I wish I could go back to school. If I get disability (in the application process) I will try to.
Good luck.

if you are filing a disability case, or are unable to become employed because of handicaps then vocational rehabilitation might pay for you to return to school.. I found out I have degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis. After one surgery that was mostly a failure, and really no other treatment available, voc. rehab is paying my tuition and books at a state university for me to become trained in a career that I can do with my back condition. You do have to take testing and it is a lengthy process, but for them to pay my tuition and books, I considered it worth it... Just a thought anyway

Thanks for all the well wishes, I am very excited and have just done my timetable online for next year, I am going to be sooo busy, I am definitely going to have to do a massive session of bulk cooking and try and get a months meals in the freezer before I start. I am going to try and find some OAMC cook books when I am USA on holidays. I am very excited and feel very blessed lately a holiday and a new adventure!
