with me it depends on how well they are made. the shoes that i have right now i have had for a yr now. mine can go from 2 yrs to 5 or 6. lol, the only bad thing is trying to find a pair that don't look kiddyish since i have to wear kids shoes (sizes 3 1/2 to 4 1/2). the pair that i have now are sketchers (sp?) and when i picked them out my mom said those look like something barbie would wear. i told her so what i like them. she bought them for $20 i think at meijers.

I can spend $100 on a pair of running shoes easily and since I run ( A LOT) I change them out pretty much every three months. (Which is advised if you run a lot of miles due to the shoe breaking down and not offering the support it was originally intended to provide. Makes no sense to keep the shoes longer to not spend the $100 to end up with thousands in doctors bills because my feet, ankles, legs, knees and back are all messed up!)

I wear Birkenstoccks and they last me for YEARS because i resole them three or four times. I pay about $100.00 a pair for them, but since I wear them for FOUR YEARS, that works out to about $2.00 per month. not bad!

This ad always bugs me for the same reason. As for the WalMart ad, I agree--who feeds their kdis a Pop Tart (and nothing else) for breakfast? ICK!

Hubby swears that I am the Shoe Queen, since I have a disgustingly huge amount of shoes in the closet. But most of them didn't cost over $5 a pair. And I rotated them all the time, so that I didn't wear the same pair twice in about 4-5 months. They last a long time that way!

My Walmart tennies cost a little more, but I don't think they were over $10. The sole started to let go, so I squirted some glue that I used for jewelry making into the gap, and they've held tight ever since. That was about 3 years ago.

I am blessed with good feet that don't need any special help, but wowser! I would get the heebie jeebies trying to spend that kind of money on one pair of shoes!
