What are your personal goals?
So to balance out my Grouchy McGrouchersons post, I decided to start a positive thread! What are your goals that being frugal will help you reach?
Starlight9803 put it better then I could:
"What's the point of being frugal if it doesn't contribute to you having a more fullfilling and satisfying life?"
I have the usual, home, debtfree, retirement and all the little things.
My big, personal goal, is to eventually have a house wired for sound! So I can start a playlist on my computer and hear the music throughout the house (without blasting my speakers). As I've say before, music is my thing!
It makes all the scrimping, saving, going withouting worth it to hear the music I love.
So tell me, what are your personal goals, what is your "carrot" that makes all the effort worth it for you?

So to balance out my Grouchy McGrouchersons post, I decided to start a positive thread!
That much better girl! Not to worry I have those moments as well. I have an hour before my daugher picks me up for Thrift Shop shopping so I will share with you my goals.
As we all know we go through different life experiences, targedies, divorces, you name it. We all learn something out of each situation. Looking at my past and and growing older (I am 50) I find out that I grew older and my tastes changed. I love decorating, and I am very crafty, my home is my castle and I like to come to a nice place.
When I was younger, I would change furniture very often, curtains, always buy things, then getting tired, then getting rid of those expensive things which cost me money.
Now is different story, I am older and wiser, I am still hardworking woman, I am still frugal, I still believe in living in a nice cozy place, but I don't care anymore to change a couch every 2-3 years, or the curtains every 6 month. I really have that statement in my mind if I really need to spend money on the item which will be gone after a while. I got taste of travel and that pays off being frugal.
BC is very nice place they say it is the "best on earth", during the summer I don't sweat over doing my chores in the house. Renovations, projects are done during the winter. During the summer we go fishing, everytime to different lakes, my husband is fishing and I can still do some of my projects (knitting, some paperwork). Since gas cost money to drive around, we bring our picnic baskets, BBQ.
I still have $100,000 mortgage (no other depts), and I will try to pay off as much as I can, but I will make sure we have a vacation once a year. Every second year overseas would be overseas.
Our second dream is to buy a RV and we are free to travel when we are 60 (gosh 10 years left), so we are saving towards that fund we already have $6000.00 there.
My 2 kids (31 and 25) are grown up, one is married, I always helped them financially and still constantly saving $50.00 for each kid (they don't know) and $50.00 for my grandson. With my income if I wasn't frugal I wouldn't be able to save for them. I love my kids, they turned such nice human beings and raised them on my own.
That mine/our goals being frugal.

my goals tend to be more about financial security. I'm a big worry wart, so just having the debt taken care of and knowing that money will not play such a big role in our lives is the "pay off" for me. Although, I would love to do a few non-necessary home projects too, like ripping up the carpet and getting laminate floors put in.

I want my debts gone, my house paid for, a nice nest egg and an new RV. When retirement arrives for me I would love it if DH and I could hit the road. Maybe buy a little place near my family back east and sell the house out here in the Midwest. And when the cold winds start moving, so would we!

I want to get rid of all of our debt (including our mortgage) within the next 5 years while also saving money in both our savings as well as the kids' accounts so that in five years, we are in a good financial position to remodel the house. I would love to update the kitchen and both bathrooms as well as to get solar panels and new metal roofing. I would like to possibly get a cistern for water collection as well as get the house sided. It would be a BIG chunck of change and I really want to be in a good spot financially before even thinking about starting any of these projects.

I decided I am going to sell my out of state rental and pay off my second mortgage and my credit card debt which used to be my car loan and I transferred it to zero percent credit cards. Then I will refinance my home and get a lower interest rate and my debt don't be so out of control. That is my goal for 2009.
My 2008 goal was to get debt to 300K ~
When I sell the rental, the debt will go down drastically, to about 231K and we will have fully funded EF and only owe on my home and husbands' truck.

I would like to try and save more. Will probably try and hold off buying a computer for a while. Keep all my finances low, loose another 10 lbs, find a place to volunteer at. Continue to learn how to knit and crochet.

I just got divorced in June and thankfully we both survived with no new debt and no hard hits financially.
But now I am renting and I HATE PAYING RENT. So my goal is to save more money for a bigger down payment on my OWN house. Small house, small yard, just something big enough for me and my son and maybe a swingset and a sandbox.Judy

My personal goal for all of this is to be able to pay off my debts, my house, and to set aside enough money to retire early. I am really looking to establish security for myself for the future.
Other than that I actually do enjoy the fact that by living frugally I have eliminated a huge amount of waste in my life.

- Get our second mortgage paid off by the time the kids are out of elementary school - $114,000.
- Get our primary mortgage paid off by the time they're out of high school or at least college. - $459,000.
- I want to be able to help the kids with college if they need it.
- By the time our son is out of high school we will be in our mid 50s. Our 30-year mortage that we got just a couple years ago isn't scheduled to be paid off until my husband is 68. (!!!) Just the thought of my husband having to work that long makes me sad. I want both of us to be able to enjoy the post-kids phase of our lives. Even if our primary mortgage isn't completely paid off by the time they're out of the house, I want it to be at least within sight.
- More money to spoil my grandkids with. Spoil frugally of course. I don't want my kids and grandkids to wind up in hole like we did.I may not be where I need to be, but thank God I'm not where I used to be.

Our goal is for dh to retire early with enough money of course lol. I would really love to get an RV and just roam around. I'm not sure if that will be feasible at the time or not. Main thing is just to be able to do a few things while we are still have our health without the worry of money.
