    Default Going through clothes...

that have either been given to me for the girls over the years or that I have stashed away from the oldest in case in may fit the youngest later on down the road....

I have toted these clothes with me across the globe, but very rarely have I ever had the time to look through them, if I even knew where they were in the moving boxes!

Well, today I decided to find them in the garage. Both girls need some winter stuff, mainly jeans but some new tops as well.

We have gone through 4 60 gallon tubs of clothes already with another 4 to go.

Out of all of those clothes so far, the oldest has kept out 4 pairs of jeans (the others were either too tight in the crotch, too short, or the wrong size)

The younger one has gotten 3 pairs of jeans out of the deal.

A lot of the clothing is either the wrong season or sizes that neither girl is wearing currently. Sure, I have some 4T and under stuff, but not much. A LOT of 6 and 7 sizes which are too small for the oldest and too big for the youngest and 8's that dont fit the oldest like they should and 10's that are just too big.

As I am going through, I am taking out all the sizes that don't fit either one of them anymore and those things are going to Goodwill or Salavation Army tomorrow. I am also seperating seasons because I am going through a lot of summer clothing.

I got a clear tub to put on top of the girls closet, and all the jeans that may fit either one of them one day are getting put in the tub. So next time we have a growth spurt, we know where to look first!

I am very exhausted, but we had a lot of fun "shopping". I also found a drawing my oldest (10) drew for me when she was about 5.... it is now displayed on the fridge.

I really need to organize this garage of mine. Who knows what I may find??

That sounds like both a lot of work and a lot of fun. I just gave my stash of clothes that the kids couldn't fit into to the local homeless shelter. They were VERY happy to get it because they currently have two pg women staying there and 2 women with little kids. I am always happy to know that they will be used again.

Don't get rid of something you might be able to use. That's wasteful. Read "The Complete Tightwad Gazette". Amy D. gives an overview of her kids' clothing storage system so she can stay organized. If you have any spare room, this will pay for itself. All you need is some boxes, a few hours and a marker.

The only things I am getting rid of are clothing that my youngest will never fit in or tried on and did not fit properly.

So basically, anything 4T or under or anything in a 5 that did not fit properly is going.

Anything size 5 that fit and up is staying. Size 6's, 7's, some of the 8's (didnt fit the oldest properly due to her height) and 10's are all getting placed in a tub and labeled with the season and the sizes. All of the jeans are getting placed in a tub on the top shelf in their closet, as we seem to outgrow jeans before anything else.

I am not trying to be wasteful. If anything, by taking the time to look through these items I am trying to NOT create more waste and to take advantage of what I already have.

It is possible that I *MAY* have another child on day, but I am not planning on it. I have kept these clothes with me all these years through 4 international moves, and since I am not planning on having any more children, the clothes that they have outgrown have to go. I have limited space and I am not going to indefinitely store these clothes until my children have children so I can give them to the grandbabies. Its a wonderful thought, but it just isnt going to happen. The next time I move, I am not paying $10,000 to move things that I do not use or will not use in the forseeable future.
