Default Yesterday I bought some clothes.......

..and today I returned them. The total was $75 which was exactly what I need to pay the rest of my electric bill, so I exchanged my clothes for heat! I really didn't need them, was basically an impulse buy. I had a pair of jeans, 3 shirts and a jacket. My hubby will be upset because he thinks I never do anything for myself and he was happy I bought them. But I would have felt sooo guilty if our power was shut off and I had new clothes.

Sounds like a wise choice. Tell him having heat is considered doing something for you. I know people who are dead broke and go out to eat and their reasoning is...we never get to do anything so we deserve it. I deserve to not be stressed over bills and to be debt free, so I will eat my beans and rice lol.

I understand where you're coming from when you say that your hubby will be upset because he thinks you never do anything for youself and he was happy you bought them. Too bad he already knew you bought the clothes or else you could say nothing.

Since my hubby makes the majority of the money (and he feels like it's his responsibility to provide for the family), I can guarantee he wouldn't be happy if I returned clothes I purchased for myself in exchange for heat. I completely understand where you're coming from. I'd rather do without and have the basic necessities and get by nicely instead of buying things I don't really need. KWIM?

Smart lady. Jeans and tops will still be there when you ACTUALLY NEED THEM. I stay out of stores altogether unless I MUST purchase something, and then I really have to stick to my list. I do not shop and spend as recreation anymore.

A wise choice. I agree with the OP about having heat being a choice to do something for yourself as well. {{{Hugs}}} and good luck dealing with DH on the subject.

I agree on the return...good judgment call. You can hunt the thrift stores, alot of stuff there is like new, some is complete with tags. One of ours is half-price on Mondays. I like the thrill of the hunt sometimes. I thrift hunt for work clothes. I wear a lab coat over street clothes, so no need to be trendy when all you see is knees down!

Go to the thrift store and see if you can't get the same thing for $15. No guilt!

Smart choice you made. Shopping at thrift stores is a lot of fun to see how much you can get for your buck.

Thanks everyone! Usually the thrift store is where I go. We were at Target to get my oldest DS boots, and I slowly gravitated to the clothes. I have no bad feelings about the return, but my hubby was feeling a little depressed that his wife couldn't have nice things when she wanted them. I tell him over and over that those new clothes don't make me happy the way taking care of my family does.

Your story reminded me of my Mama...

She never had a winter coat when I was a child...Said she was hot-natured...(we live in the South, so it doesn't get too cold). It wasn't until I was an older teenager that I realized just how much she sacrificed to keep us warm, fed, clothed...When I asked her about it, she said it was her love for us that kept her warm...

    Take care,
Anna (who thinks you'd have said the same thing)
