Anyone's gas bill gone up this year
We have our gas set up where we pay the same payment all year around. It first was 57.00, then it when to 73.00 and now it is 95 bucks for the set price all year.(that is monthly) I swear I almost cried when I got this in the mail.
On top of it, our home owners insurance went up 20 bucks a month. It does make a big difference when income does not go up with it!
I have no idea how to cut back on gas. I am the hot blooded one in the house and I want the heat lower and I am out numbered in my family with cold blooded people. We do have a gas stove, but we have had that for 3 years.
One of our best friends does heating and cooling for a living so he always make sure our heating/air is up to par. Thank God for that.
Geez, do I need to resort to cold showers now.

I'm on the same sort of budget plan. The first year I lived in my house, the former owners must've set the amount of the plan and it was $121. The second year, $113, and last year $104 -- but there were a couple of months that I had to pay -0-. This year it's still $104.
How big is your house? Is it well insulated? That really seems like a huge increase (and $57 seems REALLY cheap to me) - tho' you're not as far north as I am.
Maybe you could call to have them verify the new amount -- if you haven't changed your consumption, I can't imagine it going up that much!

I feel for you. Ours went up too...by 25%. It was $135 for November. We aren't looking forward to the January bill. DH and I will have to keep a close eye on it. We thought with replacing the basement windows and back door we'd come out a bit lower. But then the government raised the rates...sigh... We might have to look seriously at replacing the upstairs windows and front entry. DH and I have also been thinking about taking the remaining trees off the property and setting up some solar panels for heat gain.

Did the rate of gas actually go up for you? (If so, who are you using, because MGE just lowered their rates from 1.04 to .94 per CCF)
I think if you look carefully at the bill you might find that they adjusted the cost per month based on actual usage, and not the estimate you started with. I know when I went on the averaged plan with the electric co it took a while to settle down to a consistent rate.
My bill went up this month, only because I tripled my usage. It got cold early this year.

Yep it is MGE because we live in the same area. I never thought about that. duh to me. Yeah, so I have seen it change in the last six years.
But I did hear a DJ on the radio not to long ago say that gas was going up here. I will double check on that. Also they changed their billing look and the bill has looked different for the last couple months. Thank you.Last edited by Palooka; 11-27-2008 at 10:10 PM.
