    Default Frugal Vacuum Triumph!

I just wanted to share my vaccuum story.

We spent a year searching for a deal on a new vacuum, while being on "death watch" for our 20 year old Kenmore. (See Vacuum Blues thread). Well - everyone recommended buying a Dyson vacuum, and after months of watching prices- we resigned ourselves to the fact that Dyson never goes on sale. I Googled the price of the Dyson D23 Animal and everywhere is was $749 Canadian, American - it didn't matter!

When our vaccum kicked the bucket I was still reluctant to spend the money. Finally I promised Dh that on the weekend we would buy a vacuum because after months (yes months!) without a vacuum we were living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome -flylady).

So I checked the flyers of all the big department stores for sales. And found one having a three day SALE on Dysons that ended that day! Regular $749 - now $699 (Save $50). So I called the store closest to me - SOLD OUT! I called two other stores - SOLD OUT! The last store I called was also SOLD OUT! - BUT- the salesperson said - I have the floor model - and if you wanted it I can give you an extra $50 off. I said "YES! put it on hold I'll be right down!"

When Dh and I arrived the salesperson let us know he'd had to fight off four other customers who had wanted the vacuum - but he had managed to save it for us. There was an extra motorized vacuum head in the box and he didn't know where it came from - but winked at us and said "it came in the box, I'm not going to take it out" so we took that home too! Then to top it off, instead of the $50 off for taking the floor model, the salesperson made it 10% off - which was $70!

So, we got the Dyson D23 Animal regular $749 for $50 off sale, $70 off for being the floor model and a free extra motorized head for the vacuum! It also has a 5 year warranty so I'm not worried about it having been the floor model. Most company's test to see when the majority of their products fail and end the warranty just before that date! So I have a head start on use, so if mine breaks down I figure it will still be on warranty!

Yay! I have a new vacuum and I saved $120 on it! I can invite people over now! Who wants to come?

Good deal! I like my Dyson. I'm happy you got something you will like and saved money too. That must be your reward for being patient.

Dysons rock! My dh bought me one that was on sale for 500 and put it on his credit card as a gift to me and I was so mad he charged that sucker. This was about 3 years ago.

But it is payed off now of course. We have the one for animals too and we have 3 cats.

I have personaly went through at least 10 cheap vacuums and even payed repairs for them, thinking I would save money. It seems everything went wrong with them.

The Dyson is so much better for the money and really saves you in the long run.
