Change jar
My change jar is bursting! I'm so happy! I was going to use the change for Christmas, but have decided to wait till June when DS & I go to NYC.
Do you all cash yours in at the little machines in the grocery stores, or at the bank? Do the machines charge to count your money?
How's yours?Wife to Kevin: 20 years

I personally dont have a change jar, but I've seen those machines in the grocery stores that count your money & yes they do charge ... i forget exactly what they charge, but I knew it was too much for my liking ...

Ugh I wish my bank had a change counter! Personally, I like to roll it all myself and take it to the bank. DH would rather be lazy and dump it in the Coinstar at the grocery. Waste of perfectly good money to me. It wouldn't take long to roll it yourself and if it's a huge amount, do a little at a time.

The machine at the local grocer here takes 8% of what it counts for you. Our bank will take the change and count it for free if you are depositing it in your account... you can always take it out later when you need it. I would ask your bank and see if they do this service. Congratulations... it's always a blessing for your cup/jar to overflow.

We don't use change machines. Don't know if they even have them here. We just roll our own and take it into the bank.

Congrats on the overflow.

Our bank has a change counter, and it's free up to $100... after that I'm not sure -- my change jar doesn't hold that much.

Our bank does not accept rolled coins, we dump ours in machine, and take to counter to get cash, or deposit in account. glad your is overflowing. I am trying to save mine for trip this summer. Everytime it gets full i deposit in my savings.

Collected $196.60 from my 2008 change jar. Rolled most of it ($190) last night and will be taking it to the bank to add to my grocery money this month.
I left $6.60 as "seed money" with which to start the new year.

I actually save all of my spare change for when I take the train. The dollar coins are saved for the grocery store shopping cart, but everything else is usually picked through by either me or DH. We figured that by using the change we have in our jar for transportation, we'd save gas and DH wouldn't lose hours at work by taking us to every appointment.

Just changed ours at the bank coin machine (free) and it was $150.50! I was so happy, was actually thinking it would be around $65 and it was much more! DH thought it would be $35 LOL
