    Default Is Frugality a fad?

With all of the attention paid to being frugal, I wonder will it last? Will people adopt it as a lifestyle or go back to the way it was when the economy improves? The question could also be posed, if you were to become better off would you change? I don't mean crazy lottery money, just more secure financially.

I know I would not, Even when I was working and brought home $3-500. a night I was still frugal! I think it probably could be a fad for some who will slip out of it though when and if the economy does change!

I function better with order... So I wouldn't stop being frugal but I would lax up a bit.

I'm more frugal when I have to be. I haven't mastered the state of mind of being frugal all the time even though i'd be better off if I was.

The longer the economic troubles last, the more of a lasting impact they will make. The Great Depression created two generations of debt averse, fiscally sensible people.

Sadly, they're mostly dead or dying out now, leaving behind us idiots who just figured they were being paranoid...
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

For me, frugality is permanent. Part of that is that it is just my nature to conserve, part of it is knowing that I'm meant to be a good steward of what I have.

I have always been frugal, more so now that I'm older and well, divorced and have only my paycheck to live on.

I am thankful that things I started to do out of necessity have become habits. I see no need to give my money to the electric company or gas company or anyone else if I can keep doing what I'm more than capable of doing.

I think frugality is a fad for some people. But for most of us here I don't think it is.

Like most things, some people will think it's a fad and will just move from one approach to the next. But those who truly understand the life changing results of frugality will embrace it for life. It's simply a lifestyle that works...really well.

We have adopted it as a lifestyle.
No we would not change if we became better off, not even if we won the lottery. We want to be like "The Millionaire Next Door" by David Bach.

We really love being frugal. It's such a simple way of life.
    No...we wouldn't change at all.

I think I would still remain frugal. I would hope I would anyway. If I should suddenly become wealthy I think I would be afraid of $$$. Sounds weird I know, but true.

I would still stay frugal, just lax up a little by being able to make better choices. More local, more organic, and only buying american when possiable.

Always been in a household with a tight budget. From growing up to now.
Would I change if I had a bit more money to play with ?
    Nope.......
it would be sitting in the savings account waiting for whatever
unplanned for needs that would arise.
Now the hubby would be spending any extra if he controlled the purse strings.......although he has gotten a lot better.
I think he likes it better, when I am not reading him the riot act over how to spend money.

I hope it is not a fad for . For our family, it is a lifestyle that we have been living since forever. I think it is partly because of the way I was raised.

Fugal has different meanings for different folks. It's always in fashion even for the super rich. Actually, the super rich are the most frugal folks I know. There's a reason why they are super rich. They saved their money while pursuing their life goal. Usually, pursing one's life goals doesn't cost anything; it's what makes one rich in all senses of the word!

Only about 10% of the millionaires out there spend like Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. This information is from the magazine Investment News a few years ago. I don't remember the actual date or issue. I think being frugal is only a fab because the news is finally reporting about it. Unfortunately, for some, it's because the shell game of debt finally came to an end.

Keep and playing the game of life and the game of debt will slowly end.
