Passing on the Savings
Obviously, merchants and retailers are very quick tp pass on any increases in prices or charges to customers. If they have to pay for something, the charge is usually passed on directly to the consumer.
I saw something interesting on my way to work. The diesel price was listed on a big flashing sign at a truck stop and it was listed as 2.47 debit, 2.39 cash. That's an 8 cent difference. The retailer is charged a fee everytime a consumer uses their debit card or credit card and in this instance was passing on a savings to the customer if they paid cash.
I found it refreshing to see a retailer giving a discount to help save them money, ya know?McD

Most all of our gas stations around here have a credit price and a cash price per gallon. Which is great because I always pay cash for my gas.

WOW that is great. I've never seen that in Canada. Wish it was because I pay by cash.

I noticed a lot of places around here started doing that when the cost of gas hit around $4/gallon.

I've seen that a number of places, but not right where I live- though I don't fill up my car very often anyway, so I'm not always the most observant about such things.
But I do craft shows and one of the reasons I don't take credit cards (at least, not yet) is that the fees are ridiculous! The cash price probably earns the station owner more than the "credit" amount.
Thanks for reminding me to keep my eyes peeled!

At my local grocery if you get 10 gallons of gas from their pumps you get %5 off your total food purchase. It all helps and why get gas somewhere else if you are going to need food anyway and why buy food somewhere else if you can get it cheaper and with a percentage off??

They also put $5 off any $50 food purchase. I am all over that coupon! The math never lies, budget in INK!
Amount of Free items 2012 $391.33

Yup, here in Germany, the military bases are doing something similar. If you pay with your Military Star card, you get 3 cents off per gallon since the card is backed by AAFES and not the major CC companies. It's not a big savings, but it helps KWIM?
We pay the card off every month so it's worth it for us

Some places here do the different prices for gas. As for the price of fuel i think it should be alot less. Trucks keep our products moving in this country.

Yes, there are several here in the Oklahoma City area that do that... the main gas station that my dh & I frequent don't even take credit cards... cash only! & that is for a gas station that doesn't have alcohol in their gas! (& right now, it's only 3 cents more/gal for no alcohol in gas than the ones across the street that do!)

Here in Phoenix there are several grocery stores if you spend over $100 in grocery
stores you get 10 cents off a gallon. Also most gas stations it is the same price for cash or credit. Here unleaded the cheapest I found is $1.47 and desile $1.81.

Lots of gas stations along major highways do that...
however, most of the people who use diesel are our truck drivers... who are normally NOT given a cash per diem - if any money beforehand! But rather a credit/debit card with money only useful for petrol (sometimes food).
I know some truck companies simply reimburse (by receipts)... and how many people carry that much cash on them to fill up a large truck?
So it's not entirely a savings for those people.
