The second Black Friday-- Dec 26
The news was calling the day after Chirstmas this year the second black friday and that retailers were hoping that sales this day would put them in the black instead of the red.
Did you go shopping?
I stopped by the store today.
Had to make returns. The clothing store was packed. The store even had Door buster prices. I think lots were there making exchanges They were low on clothes, especially men's clothing. Definitely, the Men's sweaters I needed.
Wal-mart was full of people and Christmas items. Tons of wrapping paper/decorations and candy. One lady commented about how much stuff there still was. I mean tons. The Christmas area still looked pre-Christmas.
I was there early afternoon and I still was able to but some of the good candy (m&ms and Hershey kisses) at 50% off I'm not sure this has ever happened before. The people picking some up were buying say one bag like I was.
The even had tons of oranges and they were 10 cents each. Now people were snatching those up fast. I didn't get any since I had a bag at home.
I ended up buying 4 rolls of the good wrapping paper $1.40 each and two bags of candy $1.50 each.
Did you shop "Second Black Friday" sales/clearance?Last edited by imagine; 12-27-2008 at 12:42 AM. Reason: typo and to mention the door busters

Dh did and spent a whopping $3.00. I stayed home because I don't like crowds.
On the CTV news, they said shopping was way down in our province today. Everyone here is being very cautious with their money.

I did. Typically, I wouldn't because we are all stocked on any wrapping paper, etc., but I need some silk flowers for cemetary visits and my stockpile is completely spent. I didn't get the poinsettias like I wanted (because they were'nt marked down enough for me), but I settled for some Fall floral that had been marked down 90%. I scored 16-$1.99 tigerlillies for .19 a piece and 9-$4.99 mum-looking bunches for .49 a piece. That will last me for a couple of years.

I wasn't planning on going out, but ended up going to Wal mart tonight. I did buy a couple of presents for next year(yay me), gift wrap, Christmas cards and plain wreaths. My daughter went out this morning to return several shirts that she couldn't wear and ended up getting some great buys on items that she really needed. My son spent some of his money on video games, he made me proud. He bought them all used, and immediately came home and pulled out his old ones that he no longer plays to take back to the store to get credit for..Plus he LOOKED at his receipt and saw where they overcharged him $3. LOL (he is only 11)

No we didn't, but I am crazy busy getting this house ready to sell (fingers crossed) so that is where my energy was today, but I think I might at the end of the week, closer to payday. I would love to see some good January White sales. I did hear on the news that this Friday's numbers aren't what they hoped. Which on one hand is good people are being cautious but bad as far as businesses having to do more lay-offs.

I ended up going to Wal-Mart this morning to get some of the marked down Christmas items. I got an artificial tree, wrapping paper and some gift sets for Christmas next year. All were marked down 50%.

We went to Walmart today to pick up a few things for the house. I got wrapping paper for next year and this cute little glass hurricane candle holder for $5. That was it for me. I just didn't find the discounts to be all that great.

DH went to look for a gift for his dad b/c we haven't had Christmas exchange w/ him yet, but he didn't find what he was looking for so no money spent! My sister and I walked around the mall just for some exercise (MUCH needed after a day of eating!) but there wasn't anything I needed nor anything that struck me as a "MUST-HAVE".

I didn't go out yesterday. I didn't have anything that needed to go back, every thing was loved and fit well, so I figured no need.
I was watching amazon for my camera though. Before Christmas, it was $199, it's been going down steadily, it's now $159. So I checked that out yesterday, but that was it. I think I'm going to wait and see if it goes down further. I'd love to get it for between $129-$139! We'll see if it happens!

We went to Walmart and Beall's. Ds needed a gift for our exchange today and I needed one for tomorrow. At Walmart there were TONS of people. The isle where the fragrance gift sets usually are was really picked over, but there were still tons of wrapping paper and ornaments and such. I got some Christmas cards, 3 rolls of wrapping paper, some gift bags, tissue paper, gift tags, 1 gift.....I think that's all. There were lots of people looking around and buying stuff too.
At Beall's there weren't as many people but I asked the clerk if they had had a good Christmas season and he said Yes! It was really-really good. He said that everyone had waited until the last minute but it was very good. The same with the store in the city about an hour away at Beall's as well. I was thrilled to hear that

I don't like crowds so I skipped it, but I do plan to hit the mall on Monday when a lot of people are back at work. I figure less stuff available means I'll buy less.

We stayed in our jammies all day yesterday. However, today we are headed to Barnes and Noble to try to return 3 books that dd got that were repeats and to Best Buy to return a game.
The plan is to just return...not buy.

I did venture out and only bought gift tags. that was it. I spent 2.00 plus tax. I looked and looked and just didn't find anything that I needed or wanted. Even my teenage DD didn't find anything she wanted. My other DD did buy some items, but she has her own job and paid for all if it herself. Our stores were not crowded either and still quite a bit of stuff left.
