UGH! Are you serious???
I just looked at my online Kroger ad...They have downsized the cases of Coke products to 20 cans from 24! What the heck?? And charging $5.99 as a "sale" price. Talk about the incredible shrinking product, that's ridiculous!

Really? That is ridiculous! I'll have to keep an eye out for that.
I almost stopped buying Skippy peanut butter after I discovered they downsized the jar by putting a big indentation in the bottom of the jar - but my son complained about the replacement brand too much ...so I'm back to buying downsized Skippy...

Everything has been shrinking lately. It's pretty frustrating.

WOW, that is quite a difference. I've noticed that in many many items at our grocery stores here in Canada. And even though they've made the item smaller, they are still charging the same price.

I never buy boxes of cereal as a food source (we use whole grains instead), but for the holidays I always make my MILs recipe for "party mix" (that family tradition thing) and went into cardiac arrest at the "new" sizes and prices of the boxes of cereal - even on sale with a double coupon!!! I don't know how young families with cereal-eating youngsters do it? It would be a budget-breaker for me.
You might try Sam's Cola from Wal-Mart. We rarely purchase soda/pop, but that's a much better price. If you don't like the cola variety, maybe you'll like the other flavors to help bridge the price gap.
This reminds me why I always compare UNIT pricing.
You'll also run into problems from shrinking sizes when you use old recipes where a can of "whatever" was larger than they are now.

It's mostly DH that drinks the Coke. I don't buy it much since when I do, it's gone within a couple of days, if not sooner. He is a fiend. But if I don't bother buying it, he drinks water. Weirdo. Still, when I do buy it, I usually go the 2-liter route. I find that there is less waste that way in regards to people not drinking all of what's in their cans and leaving it because it went flat.

It's crazy how they keep shrinking products but charge the same. Unfortunately many rushed consumers don't notice until they use a product in their usual recipe and wonder why it didn't turn out right! (This happened to my sister when her usual canned product suddenly contained 3oz less). Big business is counting on us to be creatures of habit and it takes an alert frugalite to notice! Yogurt has downsized from 8oz to 6oz and don't get me started on the shrinking grams in a potatoe chip bag!
I'll keep an eye on the coke cans, thanks!

Unbelievable.
I guess we can look forward to more of this. :cangry:" May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."

This truly upsets me. That companies are allowed to do this and we are consumers "let" them do it. What can we do about it? How can we stop "the machine" from doing this to us more and more...???

Not only is the size shrinking and the price growing, in NYS there is talk of a soda tax! Similar concept to the cigarette tax. I have coworkers who support the concept, but I wonder... will they start taxing sugar? coffee? candy bars? How about alcohol? Ugh!
not anymore!

I've taken to buying the generic store brand of soda--or something like Big K, Sam's Choice, etc. Shasta brand cola is usually pretty inexpensive too. DH said drinking those brands reminds him of when he was in college and if it was good enough for him then, it's good enough for him now!!!
Do you all keep a price book to track things like sizes (ounces) of products and costs? I honestly haven't even thought about keeping track of product size and cost but will definitely be doing so now!
Someone on another thread was talking about the skyrocketing cost of Velveeta cheese compared to past years so we are not alone in our thinking!
DH and I have been talking a lot about the size of things going down while the price stays the same or goes up. I think the stores/restaurants think many of us consumers are stupid and just won't notice!May Goals:
Only $300 for groceries this month - $206/$300
Monthly coupon/valued customer savings = $14.08
No wasted food!
