Default Found old grocery receipt I was shocked

I found a grocery receipt date Feb 2008 stuck in my tracking notebook. I was shocked at the prices.

They were not as different as today's prices as I had thought they would be.

Milk was about the same as was butter. Apples about the same. Eggs were more expensive. There are also sales in my area now on things like eggs, milk, butter and there did not use to be. So They can be bought for cheaper now.

Things like Soda, chips, candy have gone up a lot though. They were way cheaper in Feb 2008 according to my receipt.

Anyone else find any old receipts? What did you notice?

An added bonus I found my month spending for the last few month of 2007. I am way down in areas like clothing and eating out. Food (groceries) and medicines have gone up though.

I, too, have looked at old receipts lately, and discovered that milk used to put us in the poorhouse! Now it is not nearly as high as it was. We were paying almost $5/gallon at one point, now we can get it for half that.

I usually shop loss leaders and stock up, so I haven't really noticed price jumps in anything I use frequently. My one splurge, though, that hasn't come down to last year's pricing, is Ragu. I love Ragu, and it used to go on sale for 10/$10. The cheapest I've gotten it in the last year is $1.75.

Actually I've been cleaning out some old albums (11) that my grandmother had newspaper clippings and recipes stuck in. The grocery ads on the back of some of the recipe pages is amazing.
Meat prices from the 1960 compared to today is out of this world. And many of the A&P ads boasted free items like eggs and bread. Spend $10.00 and get a free dozen eggs! Oh, I wish. DH was amazed at the car prices we found on one page.

The prices may be the same, but some of the containers may be smaller. But I notice too that some things haven't changed much.

Surprisingly I think that our milk/eggs/bread prices have gone up.

Getting value is what it's all about. And clipping coupons, especially when triples are offered, is amazing.

Recently I got an 18 count of Eggland eggs for 4 CENTs at my local A&P/SuperFresh. You can't beat that.

Also I am such a fan of their Hartford Reserve deli meats. If you live by a Great A&P or Waldbaums, Pathmark, Super Fresh, Food B asics, or Food Emporium, try this new deli meat and cheese line.

Yellow American Cheese, fresh deli cut for $3.99 a pound, and the best tasting Beef Bologna, for $3.99 a pound. That and their great tasting ham makes a super sub sandwich.

About a month ago Safeway had Ragu for sale for $1.50 each if you bought 5. This week it's on sale for 99 cents, no minimum. I still have 3 or 4 from last time, but I may get a few more, can't beat that price!
