Ugh..I'm so ticked...
Partly at myself and partly at my bank!
This past week, I was balancing my checkbook, and noticed that i had gotten down below $100. I always like to leave a cushion in my account, so I transfered $100 from savings to checking. Or so I thought! Apparently, I hit the wrong button and transfered $100 from my checking account to my savings account!!!
So, my bank made the transfer, which overdrew me right then and there. And of course, they charged me $28. Then, I had 4 debits come through between then and this morning when DH got paid. So, I'm guessing that even though the charges haven't showed up yet, I am going to get 4 more $28 charges!
I'm so frustrated! I'm mad at myself for not double checking my transfer, but I am also mad at the bank for allowing me to transfer when I didn't have the money!
I'm going to try to call them this morning and see if they will maybe reverse some of the charges. Luckily, we qualify for automatic OD protection, so the debits were covered and not sent back to the people who debited the account. But it just makes me so mad, that they're system allowed me to do this when the money wasn't there!
I guess maybe I need to stop using the online transfer, and simply call customer service at the bank when I need to transfer. At least if I had done that, a real person on the other end, would have noticed that I didn't have the money in there and made me realize my mistake!
Ugh, what a great way to start the weekend!

Sorry about what happened to you. I hope you can get it straightened out today. Everyone makes mistakes, and they should realize what happened and fix it, for minimal chages.

I'm going to stop in this morning after I drop the kids off at school. I used to be a personal banker, and I know that the customer service people often have the power to remove charges...if they want to.
So, I am going to go in there with a sunny attitude, be really nice about it, admit my mistake, ask if there is any type of program they have that we can change too (like transfering from savings in the event of an OD for less charges), and see if they'll lessen the charges for me. At least, I'm hoping they'll take the OD charge off the transfer, since they shouldn't have let me transfer in the first place!
I'm hoping if I'm really, really sweet & I hit the teller on a good day...she'll take pity on me!
Worst case scenario, they don't take the charges off, and I will have learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson on how important it is to make sure when I transfer that I do it the right way!!!

Oh, that's a real bummer. I hope they take the charges off for you. And I agree about them letting you transfer money when it's not there. Using debit cards when there wasn't any money got my ds into trouble a couple of years ago. He (rightfully) assumed when the money was gone the card wouldn't work. Nope. It was an expensive lesson for him, but it still hurts.

If the four debits haven't cleared your account yet, you shouldn't incur any additional nsf/od fees.
I would definitely call adn try to get the fee reversed, especially in that situation, the bank should be willing to work with you.McD

That is my worst money online banking fear,I check, recheck and then hit the transfer button and then I go look at the accounts and see if everything is in order.
Once I paid and online bill and I meant to pay a different one. As a rule they won't let you stop it but they did for me since i caught it fast so now I double and triple check everything. The math never lies, budget in INK!

I would go down to the bank & speak with a rep and ask them to reverse all the charges...it was an honest mistake. Since you don't strike me as the kind of person who bounces your accounts they'd probably work with you.

Awww I have done that exact same thing before and when I called the back they wouldn't reverse the charges. It made me so mad as I called them within minutes after I did it so they clearly knew it was a mistake. I really hope they reverse the charges for you - good luck, let us know what happens.

the reason I do my transfers online is because if I have them do it, at least over the phone, to my knowledge, they charge me a $3 fee.....makes me really mad , also I can only make 6 transfers a month, and if I go over that , they charge me $5 for each transfer......

Like Cricketlegs I'm pretty obsessive about this. I've never actually done a transfer the wrong direction, but I go over and over it, especially when it's a big transfer. Hope they fix it for you.
