Thumbs down Ok, not so ticked anymore & I love my bank again...

Alright, if you missed my grouchy post about overdrawing my checking account in a classic, but doofus inspired move on my part...here is a link to the post... [ame="http://www.frugalvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115623"]Ugh..I'm so ticked... - Frugal Village Forums[/ame]

Anyhoo, after I dropped off the kids, I went in there and sat down and talked to a personal banker. I explained what I did, and how it was stupid on my part for not double checking, etc. ( I learned years ago that honey is better than vinegar )

Well, she looked at our accounts and looked at how much we had in savings and then looked at the backwards transfer that I did and basically, said...whoops, that's not fair!

So she reversed all four $28 charges for me. ( I did promise her that I would never do it again!) and she set it up for me now, that instead of the automatic OD protection, it'll transfer from savings in increments of $100 and the cost to do it? Only $2 each time it transfers, regardless of how many increments of $100 it takes! Such a better option for us, since we always have money in our savings!

Ugh, I still feel stupid, but I feel so much better now! Now, I can go and have a good weekend and don't have to feel bad about the money I wasted on OD fees! Plus, I don't have to explain to DH about my blonde moment (which is crazy...since I'm not really a blonde). At least now, when I explain my dumb move to him, I can also explain that I fixed the problem, so I don't get the evil eye from him! (He would have been understanding, as he is really good about knowing mistakes get made...but I still would have gotten the stink eye from him as I was explaining what I did!)

Ok, now I am off to set my menu for the week and get groceries!

Yay for wiggling out of the stupid tax

I did something similar a few years back, the only time in my life I've ever bounced a check and my bank wouldn't do anything for me, so I promptly transfered my savings account to ING. It was obvious that it was a mistake and I had more than enough in savings to cover it.

I'm glad you were able to resolve it. That would've been a lot of money to be out for nothing.

Stupid taxes are the most painful kind, so I'm glad this worked out for you. It's really nice to occasionally hear banking stories with happy endings - they're not very common nowadays.

Good for you for taking the initiative to get it straightened out. So glad this worked out well for you. $28 x 4 would put a dent in my weekend joy too.

Our bank does this too. Our savings is our overdraft protection. They just transfer it ($50 increments) and charge us $2. Though we haven't had to use it yet. Ours is a credit union and honestly the best bank we have had yet. We get around 2.75% interest on our savings AND checking. As long as we use our card as a credit card at least 6 times a month (no problem there.. hehe) we get any atm fees refunded - this includes atm fees from other banks. We also have an ING but we got that before we started with this credit union and that is our emergency fund because it takes a few days to transfer the money.

I believe that Credit Union's really are your best option when it comes to banks. We have one local credit union, and I worked there as a teller/loan officer for 7 years and they were wonderful. Then shortly before I left (and a big reason why I left) is the management changed. The woman who took over is several cards short of a deck! Her and I really don't like each other, so I won't go back to that credit union until she is gone!

So eventually, we'll use a credit union again...but for now, we are going to stick with the local bank we have, who obviously is really good about keeping their good customers happy!

I used to work at a bank for 5 years and it is so true that a nice customer tends to be treated better than a mean customer in respect to having charges waived. That's awesome that they waived those OD charges. My bank has the same policy with automatic overdraft.
