Talking Frugal day for me...changing services

I finally quit procrastinating and went for a bundle promo through our current cable/internet provider! We were paying $133.93 a month for cable/internet service and an additional $75.03 to the telephone company...now, our combined services for all 3 services through the cable company will be $142.95...a savings of $66.01 per month...plus, in addition we will now have HBO !

Then, since I was in the mood I called our newspaper and ended our subscription starting March 1st since February has already been paid for. I will still go get the paper on Sunday's since that's the one that has the coupons & grocery ads...but, I will save $78.60 per year.

    That's a total savings of $870.72 per year !!!

That is awesome! Amazing what we can do when we put our minds to it, eh? (Oops, sorry, a little Canadian comin' out there)

I did the same thing this week. We had business lines set up as land lines but we also have cell phones. The 1 business line has been in use as our co. phone # for over 20 years and we didn't want to lose that ##.

Well, now you can change a landline # to a cell phone so we 'ported' that number to my husbands cell number and then ported our home office # to my cell number.

I still wanted a landline at home because cell reception there isn't good as well as a fax line so we set that up today. But we set them up as residential ##. The cell plan was a business plan already.

So, we are getting better services on our landlines and saving $190/month! Woohooo!!

After the lines get set up at home today I'll call about our satellite tv and see if I can get cheaper service and then bundle the phones, internet and tv together and save an additional $15/month on top of the $190.

So here's a happy dance for both of us!! lol...

Okay, so you motivated me to work on our TV situation here. We have two TVs, no cable, and rabbit ears for one TV. Meaning the other gets no reception and is used for DVDs/videos only. Or was...

Today I mentioned moving the basement TV around to see if it would get better reception. We did. It did, but still not good enough for TV viewing. So I nabbed the rabbit ears from upstairs and DH attached them to the basement TV. Presto! Great reception!

But that left the upstairs TV. So i'm thinking we'll need to fork over another $40-50 for another set of rabbit ears for it. But DH says we have a built-in antennae in the house. I'm going...and you didn't tell me? So we ended up only needing an adapter for $5 and now we have TV on the main floor too.

No cable mind you, but we don't need it. Our TV viewing consists of DVDs, videos, local stations to keep me company while I stitch, knit, etc.

    Thanks for the motivation!

    Default taxes and fees

Do you know what your total monthy bill will be after they charge taxes and fees? When I inquire about these bundled packages they never will tell me and say they don't know. I think they know but don't want to tell me because it no longer would seem like such a bargain.

They advertise $99 month for phone/cable/internet under contract but could add another $15 -$20 or more for taxes and fees which would increase that monthly bill considerably. They don't advertise that.

Franchise fees, etc., will be the same our cable/internet bill is currently $133.93 per month including fees. Our new bill will be $142.95 per month including fees according to the young man I spoke with. If for some reason there are a bunch of add ons that he failed to tell me about, you can bet they will get more than an ear full...but, so long as the total is considerably lower than what I'm paying now I'll be happy.
