    Smile American Express rewards

Last year we signed up for the Costco American Express credit card. I know that's a no-no for some folks... but we knew we could handle it properly. Yesterday we got our "reward" check! $125.00 !!! We paid our bill in full every month, they got NO interest from us, and now we get paid back for buying gas and groceries. Gotta love that!! I'm excited! Does anybody else have this AE card?

We do. I think we are supposed to get $65 back this year. It is a great card if you go to Costco. We usually use the rebate to buy something "fun".

    Debt as of 10/25/09:

    Student Loan: Currently $9500

    Mortgage: $472,000
    Discover CC: $6500 at 0%
    Chase Disney: $3000 at 0%

    Goals:
Get monthly food budget down to $200/month for me and my husband.

We have the regular AE card. We use our "points" about once or twice a year for Home Depot gift cards. Hey, if we use it for business (almost the only reason we do) and they want to give us stuff for the house for free, why not? Although I will say that after talking to the idiot I did on the phone the other day I seriously consdered getting rid of mine. (It's the only card I carry other than a debit card.)

We don't have an AE card but we use a rapid rewards visa for everything, pay it off in full every month and get tons and tons of free airline tickets. We get to go on lots fun trips and send the kids home for free too.....it's not for everyone but if you monitor your spending and can be disciplined enough to do it, it's a great way to get some fantastic freebies.

I have an AE Air Miles card. Plus a BAY rewards card...which can be transferred to air miles. I do the transfer in October/November each year and pick up gift cards, etc. for Christmas and entertainment after Christmas.

DH also has a rebate TD card. He just got it last fall and we got $21 back. Which isn't bad when you consider we didn't use it a lot. We too pay our balance in full every month.

We had a WorldPoints card that earned points. Those could be redeemed for merchandise, gift cards, or cash. The cash gives you the best rate per point. I don't know how long we had that card, but we got a $250 check once and a $80 check. We pay off our card every month too.

We just switched to a new card, I think by Chase, that pays cash rewards instead of points, and it pays a higher % than the other one did. Best % is paid on groceries and gas (at any grocery store or gas station). Lower % is paid on other stores, like a dept. store, hardware store, etc...

I have a Chase card that gives me 5% at grocery stores, gas stations, drug stores, 1% elsewhere. I love getting those $50 checks in the mail from time to time. Like the rest of you, it costs me nothing to use it. How I wish I could have bought my recent mattress set in a grocery store!

Yes, the nice thing is that anything purchased in the grocery store counts, even non-grocery items. I believe Walmart super-centers qualify, so purchases of household items there will still get the higher % (not that you'd find a mattress set there).

Yes, we have the same card, and I have a rebate check here of $124.88, almost the same as you! We use it for groceries, gas and those necessary big purchases (ie. tires, replacing broken appliances, etc.) and we pay off our balance every month. We never carry a cc balance, but we love when we can take advantage of offered rewards. You have to be very disciplined though.
