Looking for a deal.
We often get used items for our house. There's no shame in it, and we get free things often too. Love it.
But I wanted a desk for dd5. I've been looking at kijiji bargain finder, craiglist, etc.
No luck. We decided we'd do walmart but again, only computer desks, nothing suitable for alittle girl. The one store had a beautiful desk. I almost choked at the price.
So this morning, I logged onto kijiji, and a moving sale, desk was $25. Went to see it picked it up. I was really happy with the find, dd5 was upset it was brown, so we told her we have paint and we could paint it when it warms up.
But when we brought it upstairs in her room(same depth as dresser so no risk of hooking), she looked at it, around her room, and told us it was ok, that we didn't need to paint it.
I really wanted a white one for her, it would blend so nice, so dh said we'll keep looking, if we find one at the right price, we can sell this one for what we paid for and not be out any extra.
So we'll keep looking, but in the mean time, dd is content to have it.

Glad you found one for now. Like DH says ... keep an eye out for another one .... you might just get it free since you aren't in such a hurry to find one. It always happens to me!

You can also paint it white and maybe put some stencils on it in a color to match her room. You also never know when a little "roadside treasure" comes along! LOL!

painting it will be very hard, it's an arbrite finish on it, so it will be a task and a half. Although dh father can work with, but a sheet of arbrite is $80. So it doesn't make sense, we'll wait to see what we find.

Sigh...DH and I have been looking for a small child's desk for over 8 months now with no luck. We had one, but it was DD#1's and it went with her when she left home. Unfortunately DH took over her room for an office...and needs a desk a particular size to fit in there (it's a small room). We've finally decided to do without the desk. DH has decided if he keeps his computer desk clean, that will be good enough. But he still needs drawers of some sort to store office supplies. I'm thinking it might be time to purge some files in filing cabinets.
Anyway, this is all to say I think you did really well to land one of those desks! Way to go!2012 Challenges

Over the years, we've had to "make do" various desks. Metal sawhorses with a glass or hollow core doors work too. The doors have the added attaction that they can be cut to size. Three drawer metal filing cabinets work instead of sawhorses too. Plastic drawers units or plastic bins on small shelves work as good temporary drawer sets too.
All of that's obvious, I know. If you were closer, I might have one to give you, we have 5 desks right now (2 in the kitchen, 1 in the livingroom, 1 each in DH's and my offices). The built in in the kitchen is scheduled to go away this summer, where it sit is scheduled to beome my mudroom....
So, I guess that's another idea, ask your friends who are doing remodeling!
IHTH!
