I agree with you, it does take up space and money! I've found a cheaper way to support my crafting habit and am now using mainly recycled materials, but it does take up space! But, I also sell my crafts, to make some extra money and at least support my crafting habit!

My mom and I share craft supplies all the time! She almost never comes up without a bag of stuff for me, and I do the same when I go down to visit her! My DH groans every time my mom walks in the door with a bag or box of stuff!

I am a quilter too. I had to put a limit in the fabric. So here's my now rule. MIL gives me fabric as gift wrap to gifts, even the kids gifts. So I have a huge stash. I make a new pattern I select at least 2 fabrics form the new stash. What I cut into goes into the main scrap pile. After every new pattern I make something out of scraps. Stuff that is too small pieces to make anything out of goes into the "scrappy scraps". They get bagged up and donated to schools or church groups.
I agree that it can get quite ridulous. I enjoy quilting way too much, I used to cross stitch and gave it up for quilting too!

I haven't bought fabric in years I have so much of it.....no more fabric or batting needed at this time.
I also have scraps like nobodies business. I am set.
As for selling the beads, my Mom is a beader. Why would I sell what she can use for free? The money I spent on those beads is gone. She was very excited to get them as she lives off SS.The math never lies, budget in INK!

When your stuff(too much of it) makes you unhappy and makes you not want to be home..it is time to lose it.
No matter how much you spent on it, how pretty, it was a gift, someone owned it who died blah blah blah.
Your home should be a HAVEN not a prison.
The walls are closing in, the place looks clutted and messy and it takes my time to clean it. Time I could be sewing, hanging with family and pets whatever.
yes, I get better all the time. It has to go.
The best part is I go out and don't see things I want to buy to replace it with. Nothing catches my eye. I like clean surfaces, clear floors, walk in closets I can WALK in.
I need beads and paint like I need a hole in the head...The math never lies, budget in INK!

It is such a relief in the long run. I just did the same with my scrapbooking supplies. I put a bunch of things in a Rubbermaid box for the kids to use for crafts, but put the bulk of things into a box to be donated to a group that collects supplies for ill children and their families. My craft area is a lot easier to maintain and I don't miss ANY of it.
