Thanks for sharing this. I will be following it along as well. I checked some of the older posts and I was shocked but more impressed that they aren't eating poorly for sure. Whole fruit, grains, meats etc. are all certainly healthy eating and on top of that they are being purchased at the farmers market or a reputable store. The key thing that I found absolutely awesome, you didn't see every meal consisting of a boxed, over-processed, convenient food.

I read a little earlier and it left me thinking about some stuff. One thing is that sometimes we just make our food too complicated...sauces and extras if we had just gotten simple, good food we'd do better (money and health). I'm guilty of this myself. Another thing I thought about is portion size. Reading about her black beans and rice made me realize I eat way too much of the "bad" stuff and not nearly enough of the "good" stuff.

It reminds me of when I was in university and would literally have $7 to get groceries for the week. I had a pantry of seasonings and items like flour/sugar/salt etc (purchased earlier in the semester so I was better off pantry-wise than she is) but the meals I ended up eating were very similar to what she's eating. At the time I felt absolutely destitute (and started my brief love affair with the credit card because of it) but I'm wondering if I could manage it better this time around.
I want to kill my mortgage! 192,391/197,370 (since July 2011)
I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!
2012 Financial goals
- make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
- pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
- bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
- avoid lifestyle inflation
- improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork
The Financial Goals I've achieved: increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

The way she is doing it makes a heck of lot more sense than the way others have done this. Thanks for posting it!
