Default Took My Son Coupon Shopping

My son is pretty savvy regarding the use of coupons. He has cut them out for me, celebrates my savings, and pretty much thinks you are wasting money by not shopping with them . But, the boy has just never been on his own coupon shopping expedition. That changed today.

I needed to take advantage of some deals at my local Stop & Shop, so I decided it would be a great learning experience for him to do some shopping himself. I made him an envelope with his list, coupons, store card, and money.

I had my own shopping to do, so he needed to keep track of his coupons (about 8 of them) and get his products. Then we used the self checker, so I could talk him through it all. He was really into the whole scanning thing! LOL! And he loved his total! He bought about $19 worth of items and his total came to just over $7.

Of course, the cashiers were thinking he was something else. It was pretty cute, I guess. I'm sure they don't see too many 12 year old guerilla coupon shoppers .

All in all, it was really a fun adventure. He was pretty excited to see his total decrease with each coupon. And, he's really a pretty good bagger too!

Just think - when he's old enough to drive, you can lie back in the clover and watch the clouds drift by while he does the shopping. A bright future....

That is so cool! Good job in teaching your son how to coupon and stay within a budget!! So important for later in life! My kids are still kinda too young to realize...they just think mommy goes in the stores and gets free stuff! They always ask for toys for free...then I have to explain to them, that not everything can be free...mommy just plans her sales and coupons!! LOL

That is so great! I just sent my son into the grocery store today on his own. I have a cold and was feeling pretty listless so he offered to go in and pick up eggs, milk and bread.

He did a great job and picked up the cheaper items on all accounts. Proud mama! No coupons though! But, alas, we are Canadian!

Seriously though - I think it is great that your son was so frugal.

My friends daughter was showing off her 'new' Le Chateau jacket the other day as well - from Value Village! And she told the other girls where she picked it up too!

    Default super!

That is so great. It will help him in the future. My 16 yo DD is just finally realizing why I shop sales and now coupon. She works and wanted to buy a something from I think JCPenney. It was 100.00 but I found a coupon code on line and her brother had a discount coupon because he has an account with them and she only paid 65.00. Now she is finally coming around since she is spending her money and she is working.

Looks like you have a good little helper there!
