You did not buy vanity or frivilous things. You bought yourself desperately needed tools. You need the right tools to do what you do for your family. It's justified. It was long overdue. Enjoy your new cookware.

My washer is 16 years old and it's been used ALOT! I'm really thinking of just buying a new one and being done with it. It's been my experience in the past that when something has been used that much and is that old, once it starts to go, it goes fast! But I have to say that I feel some guilt for even thinking of buying a new one when everyone seems so against it LOL.
The exact same thing happened to me with our washer the week before Christmas--except yours was 5 yr older. I kwym!

To the OP...IMO there's a big difference between needing something new and just wanting something new. In your case, you needed new pans. Your health was at risk with the old ones, from what you've described.

    Enjoy those new pans!

Don't beat yourself up over this. You really got great mileage out of the old cookware set and definitely NEEDED a new one.

Yes...I feel guilty spending money on pretty much anything except basic groceries and gas to get to school/work.

I *do* know that that isn't healthy. I'm trying to work on it.

We just got a new grinder (we grind our own wheat for the baking we do...which not only saves money, but is much more healthful for us). For the last almost 9 years of marriage I've been borrowing my mom's about once a month...grinding enough for the month...and taking her grinder back to her. We figured it was time to just up and buy one for ourselves! But, it was still hard for me. I sure do like it, though!

Try your best to just enjoy the new things you get...and know that those pots and pans were MUCH needed in your home! You sure don't want Teflon in your food!!

Ironically, my husband and I must have been having the same discussion while you were posting. I was apologizing for spending $100. on cabinets to store the new glass cookware from estate, garage sales and resale shops I bought. Also the cookbooks at library sales. He told me that not eating teflon and being able to find cooking supplies to save on home cooked meals w/ new recipes beats eating out and endangering our health. Sometimes we forget the whole picture and just look at the bottom line. I'll cancel my guilt trip if you will. My three new daily phrases are: 1. How will this nourish my body
    2. How will this help my family
    3. All things good or bad eventually come to an end
Enjoy your new cookware and all the gifts you can give your family with it.

Thanks everyone! I guess the new set isn't that bad, we did need it. I guess I should be looking at the bright side. Dh, who is not frugal (lol), was telling me that I should get the $800 Gordon Ramsey set because I would enjoy them alot more. They were very very nice, I will admit that, but not worth putting on the CC. DH finally agreed and I talked him down to the ones we got...he doesnt even cook...lol
