Happiness is cutting that phone bill (thanks FV!)
I finally got a Tracfone and turned off my landline. Looks like I'll be saving about $25/month, woohoo. Just wish I had done it sooner. I first got the idea of shopping around here at the village, so heartfelt thanks to all of you! For those of you who have not "interrogated" your phone bill and looked at options recently, I highly recommend it.

Just an FYI...if you Google tracfone codes when you are ready to add minutes to your tracfone you can get free extra minutes. I just bought a 120 minute card and got 60 free minutes by looking up a tracfone code online.

Cograts on your savings.

We gave up both our cell phones. The land line wasn't an option because of the security system.
Giving up the cell phones saved $60 a month though.

We are keeping our land line due to my husbands job. We have a package deal for the DSL and the Direct TV all tied in together.
We finally got our first cell phones back in September of last year. Again due to my hubby's job. He has to be available 24/7 in the winter.
We got the tracfones in the DEAL package I call it from Walmart. Started out at $50, then they dropped them to $ 40 and now they are selling for $ 30.
It has the promo card in it for double lifetime minutes of the phone.
I keep track of the promotions for bonus minutes. Recently I had to add minutes to the hubby's phone. So I bought a 120 minute card. Then that time was doubled because of our DOUBLE MINUTES. And I had the code for a additional 30 bonus minutes. I thought a total of 270 minutes for $ 30 was a good deal. The tracfones work for us and the price is right
And no monthly fees.

Luv2BeFrugal--I am trying to not get too attached to the savings. My health insurance premiums will go up twice this year, once for their usual annual increase (typically ~20%) and again because I move up to the next age group (typically also ~20%). That will more than eat up the phone savings. It's really kind of criminal and I'm almost to the point of dropping the insurance, but that's a whole 'nother thread! The bottom line is that the money would have had to come from somewhere, so I still feel ahead in a way.
