Walmart..never heard this before!
DH and I were coming back from daughter's apt. last night and stopped by Walmart to pick up some cat food as we had run out. Our Walmart is open until midnight. When we arrived their security truck was in front of the door and some people were standing around and not going into the store. When I asked if the store was closed, one lady said yes. I asked what happened and she said Walmart is saying they don't have enough employees to keep the store open. In this time of recession when people are getting laid off left and right and Walmart don't enough people working there? Weird.

Walmart irks me in general so not so surprised but it's not like they pay well. I haven't been back since they wouldn't let me use our credit card because it had my husbands name on it. They accidentally sent two with his name this last time. I had signed it.We have the same address,we have the same ins, checking acct. and registration. I have been using it for years, weve been married 24. They acted like I stole it and asked if my husband knew I had it. Loudly. So I had to write a check while I held up others and was humiliated. When I got home she has charged me full price. I went all the way back and the return girl acted like I changed the tag. I had the reciept. The duplicate items scanned right. The guy she called was on lunch. She let me have my money back because I started to tlak loudly to other customers. She said she would do it this time as an exception. My blood pressure cannot take that store. They got some darned ignorant policies and perspectives. IMO

Frugalwarrior,
I work as a cash manager, and I know that as much as an inconvenience it is, in Canada, its considered credit card fraud to use a card that does not have your name on it. Credit cards are so easily stolen and used fraudulently. She was just doing her job.
Lovetocraft,

We were out of town Friday and found a pair of steel toed work boots at Walmart for ten bucks. On the way out the guy at the door yelled at us and chased us to the door like we had done something wrong. He was rude to begin with and he loudly wanted to know if we had steel toed sneakers. Whe my dh said yes he literally grabbed them from him and the reciept from me and took them over to a clipboard and wrote a bunch of stuff down and practically threw them back at us. I understand security but that was pushing it. When we first went into the store it smelled like a restroom...a very dirty restroom. We won't be going back there.

And you should have called or email Walmart and told them all these stories! Complain where it will do some good. Get those complaints registered somewhere. Tell exactly why you will not be going back or going to Walmart anywhere anymore. Stores don't like their pocketbooks taking a hit.
Even a conglomerate like Walmart

Ohhhhh my disgust with Walmart has grown so much lately. I am done with them.
Last year they messed up my picture order (wedding pics too!) by not having them after I had paid for the faster service and then informing me that I would have to wait two weeks until the photo guy got back. Needless to say I went round and round with the managers and fiinally emailed and called corporate. I got my money back and my pictures.
I have had multiple problems with them. If you check out in the garden center the security guy (barney fife look alike) acts as if you're a klepto.
The customer service desk is ridiculous. Thats all I have to say about that.
And lastly....they wont/will cash unemployment checks. That sounds confusing, and it is. One, will, the other says its against policy ...even though they have a HUGE sign that say we will cash any GOVERNMENT or payroll check...last time I was awfully close to getting loud and obnoxious after they called up the "cash manager" and I pointed out the policy and the fact that the OTHER local walmart does it...
The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing in Walmart. I hate that store!!"That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

It's not so much the walmart employees that get me it's the CUSTOMERS!
The people are rude, and grumpy. I cant' tell you how many times I have seen people shopping at Walmart with Pajamas on. YES PAJAMAS. I have lived in a lot of places so I know it's not all walmarts, just mine. I stay away because it is in a less desirable area and I don't care for the people who shop there. With that said I have also got my list of pet peaves about walmart too and many of those complaints could be said about a lot of other stores also. I guess in my heart I am just a mom and pop store kinda girl.

I usually don't shop at walmart.
Our WalMart just got converted to a Super Walmart. The wife of a man my Dh works with is an employee at the Super Walmart. I guess my Dh had seen something on the net or TV that said that since WalMart had done so well, they were giving all their employees bonuses. Dh asked his coworker what they were going to do with his wife's bonus. The coworker said that his wife and all of the store's employess were told that this store didn't qualify for the bonus. So....nationally, corporate is saying that all of the employees are getting bonuses, but in reality, only stores that qualify are getting bonuses. Needless to say, that woman is very mad.

RachelMcK, It is never one's job to embarass customers or be rude or act like they stole something. I have worked as a cashier, assisstant mgr. and Manager. I have had people crash down displays, hand me poopy babies and sweat soaked money. I have been flashed, tried to be short changed. Toddlers have run off with merchandise only to have the parents deny they know them. I have recieved counterfeit bills, had people pay in pennies, hand rolls of quarters w/ candian quarters in the middle and two american quarters on each end when the exchange was 40%. I cleaned up poopy and throw up and peoples garbage off the floor. But what I have never done is embarassed or humiliated a customer because that wasn't my job. I had a huge clientelle that came back just because I worked there. And when I made a mistake, I apologized. I treated each and every customer seperarely. If eighteen customers stole before that one I still have no right to treat them suspiciously. Customer service is your job as a cashier, employee working w/ the public in any way.

I feel a lot the same say
I've been in retail for 30 years, and just because a store is big and a chain is not a reason for them to have lousy customer service. We have bought 1 thing at a Walmart in the past 15 years and see no reason to change that.
Just walking into the store drives me nuts. I hate the "greeters." I want to be left alone to look and browse, not feel as if I've been tag teamed the minute I walk into the place. That's a personal quibble, but so what? It makes me snarly annoyed and all I've done is walk into the place.
I'd rather spend the time it takes to spend my money wisely elsewhere than walk into a Walmart!

Security guards at Walmart? You mean like people dressed up in uniforms of sorts? I've never seen that.
I know that our store has someone that watches the cameras and one time a plain clothes man (I guess he was their plain clothes security guy) has asked what I was doing when I was a new nursing mother and had son all tucked under the a blanket and I had stuck myself in a very small corner in shoe department. I answered the guy that I was trying to find a secluded spot to nurse the baby without anyone knowing what I was doing. He blushed and said I had done a good job.

I really don't think businesses care about customer service anymore. I agree w/frugal warrior. Things can be handled in a respectful manner. I am 43 yrs old and in my life I have seen customer service or just plain politeness go down the drain in our society. It's a shame that people don't think of others anymore.
