Annoyed at the self checkout
DBF & I went to pick up some groceries the other day. The store closest to our house always has bagged lettuce on closeout when it gets too close to the sell by date. They also have the little coupon dispenser on that shelf with $1 off coupons. So my lettuce that is normally 3.00+ is discounted to 1.75 plus a 1.00 coupons = .75
So I get to the checkout lines and rather than waiting in the one open line for 10 mins i decided to use the self checkout thingy. It won't take my coupon! So the light starts flashing for the clerk to come over and she says..."i don't think you can use that coupon on in since its on sale" Um...EXCUSE ME! i made her go ask the manager. She had to go ring me up somewhere else and manually enter the coupon...if i couldn't use coupons on sales I wouldn't shop!
She was kinda annoyed with me

Self-checkouts are good for using up change. I actually stood at one for a few minutes dumping in change, no one was waiting that I was aware of. I am trying to use change now instead of giving money to coinstar.

Every time I go to Meijer, there are employees there directing customers to the self-checkout. I figure, they are paying employees to scan groceries. When they pay me to scan my groceries, I will do it. Until then, there is really nothing in it for me. I guess I would spend less time standing in line, but it's a matter of principle.

I use self-checkout only when it is convenient for me. In the case that an employee tries to redirect me, I simply tell them that I prefer full-service checkout, and I don't mind the wait.

Once when using the self check out at Home depot it kept telling me the weight does not agree with the item #. Like I was sneaking items through or something. I started grumbling a bit and the clerk who stands by to watch the self check out lines came over and helped me she apologized for the machine being fussy.

I think self checkouts are a pain and the only time I use them is if dh is with me. He loves them.

Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

I hate using self checkouts. I like standing in line and reading the mags that I will never buy.

The only time that I had an issue with the self-checkout area is when I was trying to get jelly juju hearts on sale. The item # wasn't in the scanner anymore and we spent literally 10 minutes getting one item to scan.
Other than that, I love it! It's awesome!Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

Hehehe... I feel that my money is going to pay for an EMPLOYEE to ring up my purchases not me. The day they give me a % off to ring up my own purchases then I will CERTAINTLY use Self-Check outs.

I have never used a self checkout. Only two grocery stores that I can think of, that I use rarely, would I even begin to think about trying it.
Just does not interest me. But I guess I should try it at least once before I make any judgement about them.--------My signature--------

I like self checkout. If you go early in the morning and no one is in the store. I do'nt like to feel I'm holding anyone up. When I buy as much clearance as I do though the clerk does have to keep resetting it. The reason I like it is I can group my groceries how I want. Fruits and veg together. No fruit is ever under the canned good like when the young kids do it. I put all my heavy stuff at the bottom etc. The only time I go through the actual line is when I'm sick. I've gotten to know most of the people who work there anyway.Thinking about it I actually even have a favorite self checkout register-#4. I never thought of the change thing. thx.

Every time I've used self checkout, I've had problems. Our grocery store doesn't have the self checkout (though they're currently remodeling, and I wouldn't be surprised if they add some), but I've used them at stores in other towns when we've been traveling. And the ones at Home Depot drive me nuts. I always have to have someone come over, so I'd rather do it myself, unless I'm in a rush.
And I agree about paying a cashier to do that job. It may save the store, but I would hate to see the store become fully or even mostly automated and thereby eliminate jobs.

I haven't done the self checkout at the grocery store yet (shopping for a large family - I spend the bulk of my time trying to get everything out of the cart and keep an eye on the scanner for prices). I loath the self check at Home Depot. I have yet to go in there and not have an issue when trying to use it so I don't even bother any more.

The only stores that have them here are Lowes and BJs and the lines for them are longer than the lines for staffed checkouts.
I don't mind them and use them when I can
