Frugal Bike?
I think I got a good deal. It's complicated...the way things always are...
A long time ago when DD#1 was small we bought her an ash or birch dresser...five drawer for $100. It's been painted over the years and when she moved out we gave it to her.
Well DD#1 is moving and posted this dresser along with one of her DH's (in very bad shape) on the Internet for $50 for the pair. I wanted one, but not the other. Believe it or not, I wanted the one in bad shape. It's ancient and solid wood. Many, many, many layers of paint, horrid drawer pulls...but that can all be changed.
DH wouldn't let me buy them because there were two of them. So I talked to a friend and she wanted DD#1's dresser. But she wanted to pay by cheque and DD#1 isn't messing with anything other than cash. So I paid for both dressers.
Where's the bike come in? Well the friend who wanted the dresser just happened to let fall that she had a bike she should list on-line to get rid of. She won it and it had been in her garage 4 years because she didn't like riding it. It was tall and a man's bike. Her dog is big and she "walks" him on the bike. Apparently he's pulled her off a few times. She bought herself a ladies bike so it's easier to rid herself of it if the dog takes off!
DH has been in the market for a mountain bike for years...just won't pay the price for a new one.
So we trot over there and to my surprise she only wants $35 for the bike! I'm floored. I offer her the dresser in exchange for the bike and it's a deal! DH now has a new bike! He's so happy. So am I. I worry about him riding on those narrow ten speed wheels in fall and spring with ice and slush on the roads. This will be much better.
So I guess the bike actually cost me $125 (the cost of the dresser overall) ...but I'm thinking a new bike would cost a lot more. It's a Velo-Sport Access. Can't find anything about it on-line.Last edited by peanut; 05-11-2009 at 01:01 PM.

Sometimes complicated is good! Sounds like it all worked out in the end for all parties.
