    Default Grocery Store meal deals

In Texas we have a grocery chain called HEB. They are always having these meal deals, where if you buy these two or three items, you get two or three items free. And in my town our Kroger has done the same thing.

Yesterday HEB had if you buy two packages of ballpark franks, you get a free package of hot dog buns, free package of Borden's shredded cheese, and a free can of HEB chili. I had coupons for the ballpark franks, so I got all of that for about 5 dollars!

Did the same thing with their buy Oscar meyer lunch meat and Kraft singles, get a loaf of bread, bag of chips, koolaid singles, Oreo Cakesters free. I also had coupons for the lunchmeat. So I got all of this for 5 dollars also.

I don't like the chili or Oreos, so that goes into the box for food drives.

But I have found these meals deals to be quite a deal, especially if I have coupons and I get free food for the food drive.

Hrmph! When they have those sorts of deals here it is "buy two porterhouse steaks and get a salad free." Yeah, right, I'm going to spend $20 for a $1.99 worth of lettuce?

I had not done these before, but last week I did get the Kroger one. I was on vacation and convenience sounded like paradise. I bought the $7 refrigerated entree (way overpriced, of course), but got free a complete caesar salad kit, a tub of prepared mac and cheese, rolls, and a 2 litre soda. I normally would not buy any of this, but enjoyed it for a treat that I didn't have to prepare. I got several meals from the mac and cheese and salad, and since I already had meat cooked, I stuck the entree in the freezer for another time. The Hawaiian rolls bit the dust fast, but I'm still working on the soda. So it was an ok deal. I may start paying more attention to them in the ads.
