Do you take things...
...from Hotel rooms?
I'm not talking about linens or alarm clocks, but rather the pens & notepads or the Toiletry items.
I travel a lot as part of my job so i stay in many hotel rooms. I saw a special on TV that said all of those items are included in the price of your room, so I always toss them in my bag before I leave. Now I have a basket in my storage closet full of hotel shampoo/conditioner/lotion/barsoap and my desk at work has notepads & pens that will last me forever.
Does anybody else do this? What about the coffee packets etc? i've thought about grabbing those too.

When we stay in a hotel or DH does for business we bring home the extra little bottles of shampoos, conditioner, lotions, and soap. We do not keep them for ourselves though. When we have a good collection of them, we pack them in a box to send to a soldier serving overseas. We just pick a name from anysoldier.com. They could always use the toletries.

I share the ones that I take with friends who are struggling financially - brings a smile to their faces and helps a little!!
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

I don't travel or stay in hotels, so this doesn't apply to me.
But at one yard-sale I went to, a woman had an entire display-table of items she got from a hotel through a relative that worked as a hotel-maid. There were radios, CD players, computer games, all sorts of electronic devices like clocks, hairdryers, etc. She said that her friend is allowed to keep them because people leave them behind in their rooms, and the manager gave her permission to have them.
(She sounded like a 'fence' to me, actually; so I didn't buy any of that stuff.)
But as far as the "little niceties" of your hotel-stay, I believe they are meant for the patrons use; since you pay for them, you can keep them.

I usually take the soap but leave the shampoo unless I used it and liked it. I always take the shower cap, I use them to cover plates of leftovers in my fridge. I always take the coffee, if I didn't already drink it all (which is rare).

I usually bring the toiletries home to my DD as her souvenier!

She loves trying something new & they are just the right size for her 10 yr old hands!

~Hubby does but I don't. I hate the cheap stuff provided by hotels. But I'll also snag the shower cap if there is one. I use them as bowl covers too.~

I take the soaps and shampoos and on occasion the coffee packets. After all I did pay for it. I keep them and use them at home. My father travels a lot for his job and he takes all the toiletries and donates them to the woman's shelter.

When I travelled for my job four four years I went four years without every buying toilet paper.
I had so much single serving coffee, soap, shampoo, conditioner and OMG sooooo much lotion..
I donated a lot to soldiers.
But I kept a good stash.
Now that my wife and I are buying a house these small soaps and shampoos are coming in handy as we are packing we can put our soaps and such in boxes already and still have some to use.
I just want to close on the house already!!!

Story of my life. In 2007 we had 78000 worth of debt, and we climbed out under it, on top of paying for a surgery with cash, bought a house, had a foundation shift and $11000 in repairs later we are good to go.. then I hear the words "I'm pregnant!"

I do keep the soaps, shampoo, lotion, etc. There is the Shoebox Ministry here that distributes these to the homeless throughout our area.
It is rare that we don't drink the coffee. But if we have one left over, I do put it in the suitcase. At one point in time DH was out of town M-TH for three to four months. There were times he would use all of the coffee provided for that day and these came in handy for him at those times.
I normally don't take the pens or notepads. The exception is when we go to Disney each year I keep a piece of the stationary (since the stationary is resort specific - making it a nice souvenier of that specific resort) to use in my scrapbook from that trip. Plus, our mousekeeper at Disney always leaves extra soaps and such and I keep all of the extras. My bathroom is done in Mickey Mouse. The Mickey shaped soaps and such are a cute addition in there.Last edited by Neeley; 06-10-2009 at 03:06 PM.

Oh I definitely take these items! If we don't use them, there are so many ways to regift them! The soldiers and women's shelter ideas are what we do

I always take the shampoo, conditioner and lotion. That kind of stuff. I never thought of taking the notepad or pen by the phone or especially the toilet paper!

Absolutely! I tuck the toiletries into my travel bag for times that we are not staying in motels; they are great travel sizes. I keep an assortment in a basket in our guest room for my guests to use. I give them to the grands and they love it! And I pass them on to shelters, and other charity boxes.
I take the coffee. We rarely drink it in the room if it is available in the lobby. But at home it makes a nice few cups for just the two of us.
I have taken the note pad a couple of times when I forgot to bring paper along. I never take the pens, as I usually have a stash of them.
I don't take the TP, but once I did take the kleenex. Allergies were flying high, and I ran out of my own stash.
I reason that those items are there for our consumption and are included in the room price.Spiritual:
