My frugal victory for the day
I am still taking baby steps in learning to cook and be frugal. But I am home all summer with the baby and so the urge to go out and spend money is strong. However, I am being better.
I was grilling today and had a lot of coals left to burn. So I covered several potatoes in foil and put them on the grill to cook as the coals burned down. Now I have perfectly cooked potatoes for making hashbrowns, reheating as a baked potato, or turning into a topping for Shepherd's Pie.
May seem like old hat to you, but baby steps make me happy.

What a great idea! I would have never thought of doing something like that. Thanks for sharing it!

Well done!
Sometime I really can't be bothered to take an extra step and plan ahead like that, but when i do I feel really proud of myself just like you do and usually am grateful that I have something ready when i need it because I put in a bit more effort.
It's a nice feeling and when you're starting out like I am, and you are, we should praise our small victories :-)

thats awesome
I love it when we have left over baked potatoes - we use them as home fries with our breakfast the next morning (chop them up and fry them

Not old hat at all. I know I've never done it, and I think it's a great way to use up the last minutes of the burning coals.
Actually I can't wait to try it. We're planning a barbecue in a couple of weeks too.
This will be something new to have, so thanks!

Wow that is a great idea! I have never thought of that. I love the thought of making home fries out of them the next day.

Now that is VERY clever! Thanks!!!! What a GREAT frugal tip!!!!
I have been trying to think through what I do now, to see if there's something I can do to make use of more energy while using it, etc. as you showed here. Thanks for showing an example of that!
