Where Should I Buy My Daughter's Summer Pajamas?
Where do you buy your kids pajamas?
My two girls (ages 5 and 2-1/2 years) need some new summer pajamas, but I don't want to pay full price at a retail store and don't want some really old, well-worn pajamas from a second hand store? Any suggestions to get some good pajamas?
My only excuse in buying new pajamas for DD1 is that DD2 will wear them in 2 to 3 years. ...But then that's not fair for DD2 wearing second hand pajamas now.
I know my mentality needs straightening, so please help me.An obstacle is what comes up when you lose sight of your goal.

When they were little we used to buy oversized t-shirts. We would get matching stretchy shorts. The t-shirts eventually fit and if they weren't too worn they were good play shirts. I like Meijers but I know you don't have them.

Why not make them? My grandchildren love pj pants, I make my summer pj pants capri length add a t shirt and you're good to go!

Take old pj's that get too short in the leg length and cut them to make shorts or carpi style pants, u can do the same with the shirts if they are already not tee shirt style, or pair up tee shirts with the pants.

Lately I don't buy anything new. Everything is secondhand or re-purposed. My feeling is that I am trying to get out of debt (which by your signature, I can see you are too), which is a daunting task. I put every available dollar towards it. I can't do that when I am constantly justifying buying new. My 6 yo daughter doesn't really care if it's new, she says "it's new to me!"
I hope this mentality helps you, I know it helps me have the thinking that this is just for now - later once the bills are paid it will be different. Then, they will be older and will care weather or not the clothes are new!

I buy the kids clothes in lots on ebay. I get clothing both used and brand new with tags that way.

Why does one need pj's at all? None really 'needs' them. 'Pj's' could be as simple as a comfy shirt, shorts, sweats, etc? I think buying for specific pj's can be a waste. For example, an oversized tee-shirt would be close to a gown, comfy shorts would be the same to certain styles, joe boxer, the same as comfy sweats in the winter.
I sure would not worry too much about this in the budget though.
Ain't nothing wrong with wearing second hand. I actually like it better. You know the quality of the material way more than buying new. And how it will feel the same after the wash verses new stuff.

Your kids are too little to worry about it QM. Make sure they're warm and comfortable at night thats all. Mine wore long underwear after t-shirts. I didn't worry about it until sleepovers or camp. Half the time at camp they slept in their clothes because they were wiped out from the day.!! Maybe if its important get a nice pair around the holidays. My kids seem to be in nightclothes for every holiday picture. I had a hard time finding one for school collages that wasn't.

I make pyjamas, so easy and it doesn't matter if they're perfect because no one sees them. My daughter is the easiest, I just take a tshirt pattern and cut it so it's to her knees (plus hem). I can whip out one in an hour, and I'm a terrible seamstress.

Do you have a Carter's store nearby? I got my 2YO some really cute PJ's at our store last week- 70%off. They had a big selection of PJ's and they were all on sale.

Mens underwear shirts are soft, comfy and come in pretty colors. You can even buy white and use paints to sponge on pretty flowers or sew on lacy edges. They could even get a crazy color and sew on some little beads or something.

I know you said you didn't want worn second hand pj's
I want to suggest a children's consignment store. I am able to get very good quality at a fraction of the price. Like Hanna Anderson or Gymboree for less than $5 instead of the $30 or so dollar original. My kids wear these for at least couple of years. They tend to outgrow these before they were them out. I think Son is on year four for his pj's I bought there.
Also think out of the box. My daughter wore to bed last night a Land's end dress. it had a stain so it isn't a day dress anymore but she loves it as a night dress. So comfortable.
I have also bought t shirts on clearnce in the adult section for pj's. Especially when they had cute things like "My little Pony" on them. The $1.50 shirt started out as a night gown. Then grew into a oversized shirt with knit shorts. Someday it might be a regular shirt for daughter.
We have also had good luck with Target Pj. That is retail but not expensive retail. The ones we bought there are on year two for daughter.
Good luck

Like many of the others my kids wear over sized tshirts and it works just fine. In the summer my DDs wear the tshirts and my DS just wears cotton shorts. He hates sleeping with a shirt on. The only kind of pjs I splurge on is the footy kind for winter. If you must have new pjs check walmart, target, kohls and look for the sales. I've found pjs as low as $4 for a set of two. New pjs have always seemed ridiculously over priced for what they are so I know where you're coming from. Shopping at the end of season can also help save money we do that for all of our kids' new clothes.

My DD is 21 months old and I have found the night gowns give the biggest wiggle room in size. Right now she is wearing size 3T night gowns that are a little long, but she will be able to wear them for well over a year. Yes, I got a couple at consignment and a couple on sale at Toys R Us with a coupon, but with a potential 2 year plus usage out of it, I felt the cost was worth it.
So, if you look at the life/usage of the PJ/nightgown the cost may be quite small.Working on Our Debt a Day at a Time:

My ds-6 just needed some new pajamas badly, since he ripped a big hole in the knee of his last ones. I had the same problem, couldn't really find any that were reasonably priced for a growing kid! I ended up finding some really cute ones at Ross for $5.99. Right after that I found a three piece set (matching shirt, shorts, pants) at a yard sale for $1 in great shape! So, now he has two that should last awhile. I also would try a big t-shirt and comfy shorts as an option.
