Default My problem with visitors, update!

A couple of months ago I posted about how bad it was getting when we had visitors. How demanding they had gotten and how most of them expected us to act like a hotel. I got so many WONDERFUL responses on how I could change that and I wanted to share how things went with our last 2 overnight guests.

My friend and her son came about 3 weeks ago and stayed for 3 days. Hubby and I plan our menu now for the week and it really took a lot off my mind. I made our meals and didn't worry about whether or not they wanted special requests or not. We made good meals, but things we could do cheaply as well, chicken enchiladas, I made a large batch of pancakes, breakfast for dinner. We ate all our meals at home and I did treat her to one meal out, but it was just she and I, and my sweet hubby watched the kids. We went to DT before we left to get snacks and she paid for her own things. I made it very clear that I was not going to pay for her things by my actions, not words, but not in a mean way. I think the fact that I made us eat all the meals at home and didn't buy any soda showed her I am changing things.

Then my inlaws came this weekend and instead of going out, we made a nice big breakfast for them and us and then for dinner we bbq. They left right after dinner, long drive ahead, but they were happy and well fed. They said we had outdone ourselves and it just made me so happy. For an activity we went blueberry picking with them and the kids, it's free, you only pay for what you pick(we didn't get a great haul), but we did get some really great memories with the kids. Hubby's parents treated us to ice cream, it was great.

Having visitors has become fun again!

Way to go MB! Keep it up, they will all get the point in time. (now I have to practice some of that!)

You're doing great! You've shifted the emphasis to quality experiences. That's always a no-brainer in my opinion. Anytime a person can streamline life to increase quality experiences, the better life is.

Good!! Glad to hear it's working!

I will have to look for your first thread---BIL and SIL and their 5 kids are coming up here to the cabin tomorrow. I spent all day yesterday washing bedding and making up 7 beds. And cleaning company-style. I'm TIRED. We have one bath/one shower/one toidy . This should be interesting............
