    Default "platform" bed fix

So we have wanted to build a platform bed for our room since we moved into this house in March. Had to throw out the box spring...seriously, it had been through at least 4 family members...it was done. Anyway, instead of buying a platform or building one from scratch (even though they are cheap) I decided to reuse the queen size basic metal frame we already had. I bought 5 sturdy planks, had them cut to size and fit them on the frame. Not sure if we're going to need extra support in the center...guess we'll find out in time. Because of the way the mattress is longer than the frame, their is space between the end of the bed and the wheels of the frame and it appears to be suspended.

LOVE the way it looks...all for about $10!!

    Default Sounds good!

I'd love to see a pic. We had a platform bed when we were first married. It was a waterbed platform and we put "mattress toppers" in "bed sacks" on top of it (at the time the mattress toppers were really cheap!) and got a functioning bed for cheap.

Way to go! When we got a new mattress and it appeared out box spring was toast, we bought a sheet of 3/4" plywood and cut it to go from side to side on top of the box spring...taking advantage of the firm sides of the box spring. It's worked great! But it was a lot more expensive than your fix! What a great idea!

If you happen to need some extra support under the planks cut down some old table legs to fit from the bottom of the plank to the floor and put them in the center of each plank.
