    Default jobs with perks?

Whether it's a main job or a second or part time job, what are some free or cool, useful perks that come with a job?

Some people are going back to the workforce or need to get a second or part time job. Some jobs might offer some great perks even if the pay isn't excellent. So I thought we could share some jobs that have some advantages.

What job would you do or have you done that had useful perks? For example, working for a pizza shop and getting free pizza.

Kathryn's friend's father works for a college and gets free tuition for his kids. Now THAT's a perk!

When I worked in the hotel industry, I got free nights or discounted rates to stay at other hotels in the chain.

I got free food when I worked in restaurants.

Sadly, when I worked in a grocery store there were no discounts. Bummer.

I get free food, for example, I was given two limes yesterday. Most frequently it's red potatoes that have faded so much that people won't buy them, but are otherwise just fine. (The 2 flocks of chickens eat most of the old veggies, but the owners don't feed them potatoes.)

I have gotten books, bits of wire, food & housing (part of my salary was room & board) and wooden crates. DH gets work-related travel, and sometimes that includes a weekend when he isn't working, so he gets to go sightsee, take pictures, whatever, and his room & board are covered by the company.

My dad taught at Caltech, if I'd had the brains, my tuition would have been free too. That perk is disappearing from academia I understand.

I work at a University so I can get tuition for free if I chose to. If I had dependants of college age they could go for free too. That's major money...

I also work part time at a coffee shop during busy times of the year. Even though I don't work there year round I always get 50% off of food and drinks from there.

My wife works at a University. There is no reduced or free tuition. Because of my job, my wife does get all of her electrical work done free. Of course, I am a self-employed electrician.

Not nearly as great as free tuition, but I have a single copy paper route and I have to insert the comic/coupon sections for sundays paper and get extras that aren't used. So I end up with about 10 sets of coupons each week to use for free.

With dh's job, we get a discount on pretty much everything they sell (Kroger/Fred Meyer) also it's one of the few companies left that offer insurance to part time employees (24 hours). They have GREAT benefits.

I used to work at a bakery and could take home as much bread/muffins/bagels I wanted when I was closing. (Food we didn't take got donated to a soup kitchen). Tuesdays we got to take home cakes that didn't sell. Holidays, we could take home unsold pies. Believe me, my family and friends did not go hungry. I'm talking big black garbage bags full of stuff.

    At a petstore I got a 10% discount

Some of the business I worked at employees could get the same discounted rate for cell phones or car insurance. One place had a fitness room that any employee could use. One place would offer free health care such as diabetes testing, flu shot, etc. They would also have small seminars that any employee could go to. One place even paid for smokers to stop smoking. Meaning they would pay for whatever they used to stop smoking. One place I worked at decided to move to another state. They brought in experts to help with resume writing. They even brought in companies looking to hire to interview people.

I do computer tech support. They re-wrote the contract for me so that I could do the job from home over the Internet. The perk is that I don't have to take the ferry off the island to work.
