Yup - I understand. There are no Wal-marts close to me (thankfully). But, whenever DH and I go on road trips we always stop in to stock up on bottled water and snacks and I am always amazed at how low the prices are. I also make sure to grab earplugs for me and jeans for him which cost substantially less there.

Yup I feel the same way and most people I have talked to say the same thing - hate shopping there but love the prices.

I try to go at off times and it also helps that our walmart has lately reorganized a bit and have cleared a lot of crap out of the center of the main aisles so now its easier to navigate. But I still want to run people over with my shopping cart sometimes lol.

I still refuse to step foot in there between thanksgiving and new years because it becomes a zoo.

    Me Too!

It is lower prices than the regular grocery stores here
though, so I have to shop there. For instance a can
of roast beef hash is $1 at Walmart, but $1.69 at the
    grocery store.

I will find a product I like and buy it for a few weeks,
and then they stop carrying it. So, I am forced to
buy these other things at the regular grocers. This
happens constantly. I've been told, more than once,
that the company doesn't make it anymore. I will
come home and look up the company and check the
    product and that isn't true.

I go grocery shopping after work, 11 pm, and even
if the store is crowded, they never have more than
two registers open. They will not open another
register no matter how long the lines are!!!!!!!!!
I've seen people several times, leave their carts,
and just LEAVE because of this.

I go grocery shopping once a week, but I am going
to see if I can do a bit of stocking up and try to
make that every two weeks. The less I have to
    go there, the better.

I buy just buy a few choice items at my local wal-mart. I more or less cherry pick. Yes there are some really cheap things but I'm always on the look out at other stores just in case. At Goods yesterday they had jeans for $6.88 a pair. Good heavy duty mens work jeans, stylish too. It's Amish country and Goods is a quality store. They also had flannel work shirts around $6 too. That said, you can't beat those crazy clearances of wal-Marts and I'm partial to their low fabric prices. I'll be sorry to see their craft section go come Feb. I'll have less of a reason to shop at Wal-Mart.

I have not shopped at walmart in a long time -- maybe once or twice in the past few years because it was the only game in town (travelling)

Around here we have a store called Bigg's and it is a lot like Wal-mart -- but it isn't this monstrosity that gets as overcrowded as wal-mart does.. and they have better selection than wal-mart.

I have one about 2 miles away and I avoid it like the plague. The last thing I bought there was some Peaches and Cream yarn, a few months ago, because I couldn't find it at my local yarn stores, and I let myself slip into letting myself believe that Wal-Mart was filling a community need by expanding their yarn section. In reality, I know it is just trying to drive the small yarn stores out of business, so everyone HAS to go to Wal-Mart.

I think anyone who believes in supporting their local community is doing exactly the opposite by spending money there. I am guilty as well, but only when I have looked everywhere else and can't find it, and then I am always very conscious of my actions when I end up getting something there, and don't feel very good about it. I'll pay the extra money, thank you, and not support Wal-Mart's unethical business practices and slave labour.

I do not find grocery prices at the WalMarts in Houston lower IN GENERAL. There are a couple of items I buy there because my grocery store doesn't carry them. I HATE WalMart meat and will become a vegetarian before I buy it.

That being said, I have a HUGE stockpile. So I pretty much buy and stock up when things are on sale at the grocery store. Plus I regularly hit several grocery salvage stores.

I was at WalMart one night at almost 1 a. m. and there was ONE register open and there was a HUGE line. The guy in front of my turned and said to me, "Do you believe this?" I told him there were no other 24 hour grocery/convenience stores in the area and WalMart was the last resort!

It is a love/hate relationship for me, too.

Some weeks I can get all I need at the Save a Lot and Bi Lo. When it comes to buying soaps and personal needs, Wally World has the best prices. A friend works there and told me she doesn't buy the meats because of the gasses they use to preserve the meats. YUK! Guess what I won't be doing?

What's bad is I always scour the clearance racks for buys when I go there. I just spent $30 on stuff I couldn't afford to buy during peak season. That is the only reason I love Wal Mart.

Have any of you seen the web site www.peopleofwalmart.com? Might want to check your wardrobe before shopping! I don't dress up much to shop but am more conscious since seeing these folks.

I'm beginning to hate walmart too! I was there today, and it seemed as though they had nothing, everything I was looking for was either sold out or they didn't have...seems like they have scaled back on their selection of things as well! I usually buy my groceries at other stores...but picked up a few things while I was there today. It's always so over crowded. Just a frustrating experience over all.

They are never the lowest price here. I can do so much better at the 2 stores close to me and not have the coupon hassles I get at Walmart.
