Interesting question from your friend - brings up individual priorities. We don't have any beer or wine stored - just don't drink that much. Wish we had some vodka stored - may have to look into getting a bottle!!

I can not say for wine or beer as I've not had any in storage, we have however had hard liquor stored for over a decade with no changes in quality. Occupational hazzard of construction work, every sub contractor wishes supervisors a happy holidays with a bottle of hard liquor. We however are not huge, whiskey and rum drinkers which is mostly what he's given. We've taken to sharing the wealth as it was starting to look like a liquor store shelf.

It's not a bad idea to have a bottle or two socked away. Prefer vodka. Helps with night time coughs, or if God forbid chicken little is right and the sky does fall, then it is good for pain, and making herbal tintures, over cuts..OUCH!! Now, the sky's not going to fall.....forget Katrina ...okay, seems like a good enough reason to keep 1 bottle in storage.

If you and your family use it then I think it's ok to stock it. I personally stock food and things we would need if we could not get to the store for any reason: sickness, snowed in or quarantine(unlikely). Our stores here in the mountains of VA. have actually run out of the essentials in 2 days during a blizzard.

Also, another big reason I stock is because every thing I buy is at the lowest price -it's like insurance that I won't have to go spend the extra money when prices go up. If my dh got laid off - we have food for awhile. If we get hit with a big unexpected bill -we have food so we can put extra money towards the bill. It just creates a comfortable cushion.

If any of these things were to happen in my family my first concern would be nutrition instead of comfort (wine). However, you can drink wine if you can't drink the water.

Some bottles aren't that big so a bottle every 2 days might not be as much as it sounds. Especially split between 2 or 3 adults. She would also have better luck stockpiling wine than beer.

I heard that Two Buck Chuck is now $3!!

    Default Wine my 2 cents

When we did our 9 month no shopping challenge I did stockpile wine. I bought about 20 bottles of some of our frugal favs and put them in my wine cupboard. This was for 9 months and I also cook with wine.
    Just my 2 cents

An average bottle of wine, not a box or a jug - but the average bottle contains enough wine for 4 glasses. So her idea of a bottle for every two days sounds right if she and her spouse have a glass of wine every night with dinner.

We don't have wine every night with dinner, but we do have it 2-4 times a week. With three adults in our household, yes we do go through about a bottle of wine every other day.
