Closing on a House
Some of you may know that we managed to sell our home, even in this economy, and we move this week!!!! Today we had the closing on our new home (new to us.....). It has been 30 years since we last closed on property and the procedure has changed a lot!
We had no idea what to expect at closing, how long it would take, etc. So we were pleasantly surprised that it took all of 10 minutes, and wouldn't have been that long if not for the chit-chat about family members! It actually took longer to apply for city water than to close on the house! And the cost also surprised us: $275 for the title search and recording fee.
What has been your experience with closing? How long did it take? What kinds of fees/costs did you incur? And finally, where do you live? I'm interested in whether or not location plays a role in this. For the record, we are moving to Iowa.Spiritual:

Wow -- congratulations. I hope the new home turns out to be the house of your dreams.
I've never bought a house, so I can't answer your question but I just wanted to acknowledge the milestone. In the meanwhile, you are going to be sooooo busy! Good luck with the move. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.Donna

I have heard horror stories from friends and family about closings. We bought our house two years ago and it went smoothly.

Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.
