I haven't been to a yard sale this year. Last year stuff was starting to go like this and I refuse to pay retail for used stuff.

I've only been to one this year, and that's because it was on my block. I was glad I did go, because it was her last day, and everything was at least half off. I picked up some cute stuff, and hubby was thrilled to find books he likes a 20 cents ea.

Most times around here, it's usually just a bunch of over-priced "junk". I used to LOVE going when I lived in NY. Down here, it's almost always one flop after another. And everything I ever read about pricing said to charge $.20-$.50 on every dollar you paid for it, depending on what it is and what kinda shape it's in. Sounds like a reasonable solution.

I think the worst thing I've ever seen at a yard sale was a used toilet brush for $1. And I did start laughing hysterically!~

that is nasty on many levels, first for the person even putting out in the yard sale, and even worse the person who bought it.

Yes, it beats the free hair with the razor hands down!

somethings are so gross and dirty I've seen at yard sales people should be ashamed they keep thier stuff in such gross condition. It is hard to believe some of the stuff they were just using the day before they put it out to sell. yuck!

The only yard sales I go to are for fundraisers. I usually pay an extra dollar or two for what I buy. My daughter participates in a few for Relay for Life and an academic club. Other than that, my town has a 'freemarket' swap meet once a month.

Once dh and I saw 'x-tra small condoms' at a nearby yard sale. Not sure if it sold, I didn't see a lot of guys flocking to those, anyway.

I am trying hard not to laugh at the previous posts.

Now on a serious note, I prefer to seek out the church and fundraiser sales anyway. Unless it's an estate sale or a retired couple hosting the sale, I am not in the right demographic for much of the merchandise I see in the typical family garage sale.
