Does anyone do????
A change jar? How about the snowball savings? What about a pantry challenge?
I just got to looking at the explanation of this forum and wondered if anyone chalenges themselves in all the mentioned places.
I have a change jar (vase) It is black and looks like a bowling ball. I put my change in there.
I do dip into it, usually because the car is on empty and I need to get to work! LOL
Dhs had won't fit in it and he cant see whats there so he leaves it alone.
In the closet is a 5 gal water jug I put pennies in as well.
Starting in January I am going to start challenging myself to
1) put more than change in my change jar
2) devote 10% of my grocery money to stockpiling.
What new challenges are you up for in the new year?

I have a green bowl with a lid that I put all my change in now that I don't NEED to use my change as much

I am also beginning to stockpile again, I gave most of mine to my oldest DD when we moved.

I have 5 different change jars (vacation money, Christmas/birthday money, for ds, yard sale money, sewing machine fund).
I was doing a sdnowball savings challenge and had to dip into the money (wasn't that much) so I will be starting this again on Dec. 1st.

ooh good challenges. I have a makeshift stockpile and I really need to get it going. So I am in starting in Jan. We have 4 kids so Dec. is tight for us. I really feel that a stockpile would be my first step towards spending less in the grocery store. as for the change jar my dh would be in it all the time.

I am slowly getting the hang of stockpiling. I have a few things. I do have about $30 in my change jar. I just started that about a month or two ago. It is going to be used to pay for DD's birthday party.

We do the change jar. We have for a while. We used to jokkingly fefer to it as ds's college fund. When we only had ds we would fill it up and put the money in his savings account. Now that we have dd also... I guess I should start another jar. duh!
Since we bank out of state we don't get as much money out as we used to. (atm fees are outrageous!) so we don't have as much jingly change as before.

Great suggestions.
I'm going to start the snowball challenge again and although it will only be virtual money this time, I want to see how many more leaks I can find and how much I can save.
My change jar challenge went out the window when dh lost his job, but I think I'll start that again January 1. I don't have a lot of change because I use my bank card to pay for most things, but I think I'm going to go back to paying with cash (when I have it).

I have two money jars, one sparkletts bottle about 1/3 way full of pennies and an old wine jug that has probably $100.00 in it. Once I put the money in it i never dip into it. What is a snow ball savings?

We have one of those oversize plastic Coke bottle banks that we throw our loose change in. We need to be more vigilant about doing that, though. We use it for our spending money on vacation.
As for the stockpiling, I had built mine up and we are slowly working our way through it. I think it will be time to build it up again in March.
I don't really know much about snowball savings. My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

[COLOR=orangered]I have an old piggy bank that looks like a cat with sneakers on it.
I drop all my change in there. Then when its full I wrap it & put it in a red shiney bucket thats not very big that I got as a gift years ago.
I am always stealing my dh's change. I tell him it will be going to good use!

I am still up in the air as to allocating the saving....
I am thinking of taking the agreed upon Grocery money out of hubby's account each payday and only using half of it, the other goes into fund to:
fix hubby's dead car.
Buy my '16' basketball shoes
paint for my bedroom walls
rent dry cleaner for my carpet
Then, start snowballing the IRS into nonexistent debt!!
Ya know, when you write it down like this, it doesn't look so over-whelming.
Great thread!
Melissa
