Default GEEZ! The price of eyeglasses!

I HAVE to wear mine to drive, or else I'd just get by without them. Ugh.

I was carrying in groceries and had mine around my neck on a chain (they are bifocals and I hate walking around in them, it makes it look like I'm 10 feet tall)and must have squeezed them with a grocery bag and one of the lenses was missing. I didn't even realize it until I went to wipe them with a tissue and it went right through that side!

We looked all over outside and can't find them (10" of snow and dirt, mixed). Looked in the car, the house, etc.

SO I go this week over to WM optical. My eye doc at home is astronomical (have been looking for someplace else) so I thought this would be cheaper. I want them to replace my frames I already have with cheapo plastic lenses for a back-up pair. AND I want a new pair, for everyday. Yowza.

First, they said I needed a new exam (I was hoping to get around that, I had my prescription on me), and then I pick out new frames that are the sort of 'no frame' frames, ya know. Figured cheaper. Nope.

The whole mess cost me over $500!! Criminy! I mean--these are not made of gold or anything! Just plain old metal and SIMPLE.

    I hate being sight-challenged.

try zenni optical (you'll have to google it because i don't have enough posts.) my husband and i both got pairs from there. it was like $45 including shipping for both pairs. (he had to get special lenses or it would have been cheaper.) you have to get your Rx written down from your doctor (including pupil distance) and just type it in the website.

You are right glasses are very expensive! Mine cost close to $800...of course that was with the exam and the rest of it. I've never thought of getting my glasses on line...they do measurements at the place I go to and adjust the frames to fit my face. Plus, if they break I can take them in and they fix them for no extra cost.

    Like they said, www.zennioptical.com

I where progressives and had no problem.
    Wearing them right now.
I'll never pay $300 for a pair of glasses again.
Thinking about ordering an extra pair. Mine from zenni were only $37.

Would that work to find just the glass lens? Is there metal in it? I don't know anyone with one, but could ask around.

It could have dropped out at the store, the parking lot, or somewhere other than home, too. I'm 'sighted' enough that I wouldn't have noticed I was only looking through one lens on the way home.

But....as you say.....too late, I've already ordered them.

I've never heard of zennioptical! I will be sure to find it online and save it. Wow. $37. Thanks for all of the recommendations for zenni !

zennioptical.com DEFINITELY! I got three pair of glasses for less than I would have paid for one pair locally.

Everything you need is on your prescription EXCEPT the distance from the center of one pupil to the other. Hubby measured mine for me.

Just take your time on the website and it will walk you through everything. If you choose a frame that is too small for bifocals, it will tell you so and won't let you place the order (I did that!).

If you have any questions or problems, come here and we can help you.

DH paid $450 for his eyeglasses a few years ago. Vision is covered under the provincial health care, but the glasses are not.

We spend about $200 per child per year on glasses.

I had eye surgery and haven't worn glasses since.

We learned in the future not to get them from anywheres that costs more than $100 at a time. We try to get the kids' glasses when there are sales.

If you buy from the internet how do you get your glasses adjusted to fit you face once they are made?
