The Penny - Such a Misunderstood Little Coin
I've noticed over the years that people don't really look at pennies like they should.
I mean, seriously, they're the most "lost" coin out of the bunch!
Quarter = big, shiny coin that gets you lots without having to break change
Dime = helps out the nickle when you're out of quarters and is great when you have pennies left over
Nickle = bigger than the dime, but less value... so sad
Then you have your penny...
but what do people do with their pennies?
Most just leave them in the bottom of their purse, let them get lost in the wash with their jeans, or drop them on the ground and leave them there.
It's sad. Really. So sad.
So I proclaim February to be the "Love Your Penny" month!
Free your pennies from their change jar institution! Embrace your pennies! Make them feel loved!
(I used 30 of mine towards buying a Diet Coke today, so I gave my pennies lots of love.)
Show your pennies who is really important in this relationship.

I was going to deposit them, but I got to thinking:
What would happen to them after I deposit them? Would they really be safe? Would the bank love them the same way that I do?
So I changed my mind!
I love mine so much that they'll support me at the grocery store. When I buy things during the weekend, like bread and milk and such, I'll make love to the change slot of the self-checkout with as many pennies as I can.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

I know someone who will appreciate this thread. She is an expert on the history of...the penny. FYI, the penny is the only coin that still exists, since Roman times! (Or its equivalent.)
I'll send her a link to this discussion, she will probablylike it!

Pennies get sorted for the occasional wheat/indian head that we find - we do find a few wheat pennies per month.
The oddities get kept, the rest rolled and put into the savings pile.
We also ask for $2's everywhere we go. The bank tellers look through their drawers when they see us coming.

i rescued a lost cold & lonely penny from a parking lot this morning....at first i just threw it into the bottom of my purse...but then i remembered what you said...and i felt bad...so i stopped and fished it out and put it with all the other 'grand' change that i have in my purse and now it will no longer feel left out and unloved.... i too love ALL monies in my purse equally....
(wow...i just re-read what i wrote and thought about it...i may really be in need of some serious professional help here in the near future....) lol...

i walk with my head down when i go pick up my nephew from school. i make a mental note of any pennies on the ground so he can pick them up on the walk back home. i'll pick up the others myself only because i know they won't be there when we walk back. But since no one else wants the pennies, they are there for nephew to pick them up. to a 5 almost 6 year old, a penny is just as great as a nickel or quarter. it's all about the thrill of finding it.
we're all a little off, but that's ok
if we were normal, we'd be boring and the pennies wouldn't be getting any love!

HAHAHAHA This thread is too much!
There's no favourtism here when it comes to spending my monies equally. If anything, my pennies are loved the most and looked for first when its time to pay for things. The only downside is more and more stores are starting to post anti penny signs
"No paying entire purchase with pennies"
How discriminatory! Money is money end of story. To much dismay with their store policy, I'll start with a nickel and pay the rest in pennies. Usually its something under $1 when I do this. Why on earth would I break a looney or twoonie for this?! This is exactly what pennies are made for! They live their whole lives for this very moment!2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Ds was happily playing with a penny today, making it do all sorts of tricks. I'd like to see a vending machine or two that accept pennies!! All of mine go into ds's change bank unless I end up paying them to the swear jar (which is actually a tissue box lol).

[QUOTE=Libby;1323643]The only downside is more and more stores are starting to post anti penny signs
"No paying entire purchase with pennies"[QUOTE]
Is this even legal? That just seems absurd...I guess until someone tries to pay $10 in pennies...that might change my mind. But still, that's like saying....well, I don't know (insert interesting analogy here). Since I can't finish that thought, here's a good one for all you penny loving crazies
(j/k, don't hurt me....). The pennies made prior to the early 80's are are worth more than their face value (copper vs. zinc)....ya can't say that for any of the other "bigger" coins.
So take that quarter !
2nd Edit: Someone tell me what I'm doing wrong with the "quote" feature...
lol
